Pamster800 0 Posted April 4, 2011 Hi: I am having my preop tests next week for gastric banding. They will not do surgery on me unless I stop smoking. I quit last week (its been rough but I'm doing it). Does anyone know how low you have to stop smoking before it doesn't show in your blood work?? Has anyone had to quit smoking and how have they handled it?? Thanks
Kami172000 16 Posted April 5, 2011 i went for my blood work the day of my reg dr appt and they told me i had to quit smoking also before they would do surgery that was friday morning. i had 1/2 a pack left i smoked it during the weekend to start fresh monday morning and it is hard... but i want this done so bad that im willing to quit... now as far as it showing in blood work i dont believe they can find it that way they prob just be going by your word but from what i hear smoking has alot to do with the healing process and can really mess it up. good luck!! pinknsassyemt 13 Posted April 5, 2011 I am 2 months no smoking for the process.. and I was sent for a Cotinine (Nicotine) urine/blood test this morning.. I had to prove smoke free before they will schedule my surgery... So yes... they can test!
