nborz 0 Posted April 3, 2011 I was banded on Friday the 1st. Starting today I can start "eating" full liquids. Well I'm not hungry at all, I have gas pains and feel slightly nauseous because of them. I know I should take some nourishment, all I'm drinking is broth and Water. I tried drinking my Meal Replacement shake today, just a little at a time (eventually I'm supposed to drink 3 of these a day until I can take mushies/solids) I don't see how I can do all this!!!! I don't want to eat anything it's all so overwhelming and I don't know who to turn to. I know a few ppl that have been banded, one is struggling with being "good" and the other one did all sorts of horrible things one week after being banded (eating Pasta etc). Please help me! Tell me I'm not going to get sick or start losing my hair or whatever else until I can start getting my Protein in ...

Gunnersgal 1 Posted April 3, 2011 As long as you are drinking Water and broth you will be fine. It took me until post op day 4 to even feel any kind of hunger so just drink what you can and/or want without making yourself sick and it will get better day to day. If you are having a lot of nausea call your surgeon and ask for liquid nausea medicine. It made a world of difference for me.
Dave_NW 92 Posted April 3, 2011 If you were just banded on the 1st, you're still getting over your surgery. It'll take several days till you're ready to move forward with things. First things first: Gas pains will dissipate faster if you move around. Walking really helps. Taking Gas-X strips also does wonders. Sip Water and other fluids - don't try to drink it like you used to. Sip. And don't use a straw - it makes you swallow air. You may have some resiudual Fluid in your lungs from the anaesthetic used during surgery. If you feel the urge to cough, do it - the more you can get "under" the cough and make it a good one, the faster you'll expel any phlegm buildup. And once you can beathe more deeply, the more you'll be able to relax. And that will also help you feel better. As for nutrition, do the best you can. It'll take several days till your appetitie begins to come back, and then you can meet it halfway with whatever your nutritionist has advised you to eat. Don't get overly anxious if you can't drink everything right away. It takes time for your system to adjust to having the band in place. As you go along, things will get easier. This is a process, not an instant fix, and it really does work. Honest. Hang in there, and good luck! Dave
nborz 0 Posted April 4, 2011 Thanks guys! I'm moving as much as I can, trying to cough too- hard to get a good one though with the stomach soreness. I AM very tense, didn't occur to me that it had anything to do with my breathing. Other than that, I have been sip, sip, sipping and NO straw. I think my stomach tried to growl earlier, but I'm not sure LOL... I am sick to death of the damn shakes, they are so sweet, even with the "unflavored" (my ass) one mixed in. I tried it mixed into some Soup during my pre-op diet, and the crap tasted sweet, almost like vanilla. YUK.. I've never been a big fan of sweets or sweetness . Anyway, I'm grouchy so enough griping. Thank you all for responding
