Pain of being banded vs. pain of gallbladder surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new to the site and should be banded shortly (just waiting on insurance approval). I am curious though, for those who had gallbladder surgery and have been banded, which hurt worse or was the pain comparable? I seemed to sail through my gallbladder surgery and other than a little tenderness for 3 days afterward, it was a piece of cake. I literally only took one pain pill. I am just really nervous that I am going to be in a lot of pain after surgery this time.

I think that the pain was about the same except for the area where the port is located. That are ia a little more painful due to the fact that the port is attached to the muscle.

Thank you, Delmann. I am pretty sure that will be fine then. I am about to start a new job and I was curious about if the pain was going to limit me. I don't want to start a job and then miss too many days right away.

I took a weeks vacation when I had my surgery. I was tired after 6 hours on my first day back to work. I just went to bed a little early and took it easy that week.

Gallbladder by far ! When they took mine out. They opened me up like a fish ! Then they took the Appendix with it. That was one of the most painful surgeries I ever had.

I had both knees replaced, and it didn't come near to what the Gallbladder surgery was.

The LapBand was a piece of cake. I prept my skin on my stomach for 1 week with HIBBACLENSE a surgical soap to kill the cooties, and he did his part,. It was a snap. This soap is available at your pharmacy, and it's over the counter. (IT'S GREAT ! STUFF).

I even washed my knees with this soap when I was to have replacement, and no infections at all. The nurse who came to the house was amazed, because all her patients had infections going on in the knee.

I was already thinking of using the soap as I have had MRSA several times already. The staff at True Results seemed to think I would sail through this operation since I did well with the gallbladder surgery. I guess I am just nervous because I am so eager to start both my new lifestyle and my new career. This is a big year for change for me and my family.

Pick up a bottle. It;s like Betadine. Just you get a head start on all bugs.

Could be useful to you.

Can't hurt ! I keep a bottle in the house always.

I actually think I have a bottle in the cabinet. Off to check in a few. I appreciate all of the responses. I only hope my insurance approves me quickly. Monday will be a week. The surgery won't be scheduled until I get my approval.

I would say neither surgery was as bad as the actual gallbladder attacks I had! Uhg I can still remember those like they were yesterday.

But my gallbladder surgery I was really sore around my belly button. Worst part of lap band was the gas pain. I guess ain or discomfort was about even for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
