Down 120 then up 160-- Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was banded in 2005 in Belgium (I don't remember the doctor's name). I started out at 284 lbs. (5'10") Within 1 year, I had lost 100 lbs! I continued to lose another 20 within the next couple years. I was a really good size for my body. I was teaching step aerobics and working out for another hour after that in a Water aerobics class. I was really careful about what I ate-- lots of protein! Then I got a new boyfriend, started eating out all the time, etc. and gained a few pounds. So, I went in for a fill. The fill was too tight and I knew it but I was losing weight so fast that I couldn't give it up. I could throw up almost everything I ate (and therefore eat everything I wanted.) This continued for a few months (I'm lucky I didn't slip my band) and I got sick of throwing up so I just started eating soft foods that would go through- ice cream, sugary Cereal, etc., and I started to gain the weight back. So finally I went and told my current doctor what had been going on and they had to take ALL of the Fluid out of my band! It felt like I was starting over. They would only give me really small fills now since they were worried about it getting too tight and I ran out of money to get fills. I tried Topamax, which worked great for awhile. Then, I started a medical med (nothing to do with my band) that made me gain weight regardless of how much I ate. I was so frustrated but used the Topamax to keep my weight down my only eating about 600 calories per day. Well, the topamax stopped working so I gained about 30 pounds over the next year (2009). That's when everything went wrong. I was put on another medical med that made me STARVE all the time (even if I'd just eaten). I also started getting specific cravings (like for cheesecake or donuts) that I couldn't resist. My band is not filled enough to help me with this, so I gained another 120 pounds in the last 9 months! I should have just scraped up the money for a fill but I figured I would just eat around it anyway (cheesecake with go right through the band, as will cake and ice cream). I now weigh about 320 pounds and am still gaining. I have horrible problems with my back and knees and am worried about becoming diabetic. My blood pressure has been running high too. I decided today that I AM GOING TO GET A FILL, SEVERAL IF NEEDED and work with the band to help me lose weight. I want to be a part of this support group to help me along the way and also to encourage people who are about to be banded that you have to work with the band and your doctor-- the band on its own does very little.

Hi, I am new here myself and have not been banded as of yet. I won't be able to do anything until the beginning of next year if I am lucky. I am sorry to hear about all of the trouble you have had, from what I can gather from this board, you have come to the right place. I have a question if you don't mind. What is the going rate for a fill if you don't have insurance?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
