I am sorry for asking, as I know if I searched for this I could probably find it but I'm needing help in a hurry. Can anyone give me an idea of what gas medicine worked best for you? I slept good last night, my surgery was yesterday morning. When I sat up I got the sharp balloon of gas that shot up into my shoulder and I feel like I've been in a knife fight with Rambo. Can anybody suggest what gas medicine to use? Thanks so much and God bless.

HI Tyler and welcome to the forums!

Try Gas X strips. They seem to work best for me and for most other people. I was only banded on the 29th of march and the gas for me was the most difficult thing to bear. It does break up and pass, believe me! make sure you get up and walk around a lot too.

Good luck!

:D Hi,

I was just banded on 3/28/11. I read online that the gasX strips were the best and boy are they. If I use these the gas just disappears.

My problem is I am always hungry..They tell me it will get better so I am waiting.

Sincerely

Tyler, I was just banded on the 31st and have been using the gasx strips-they do really work. Walking as much as I can and was able to start full liquids today including a whopping 4 spoons of thinned oatmeal and was soooo full. Good luck and God Bless!!

Thanks so much to all! The Gas-X is working wonders so far and doesn't taste bad. The pains when I lay down that I feel in my stomach aren't that bad, but in my shoulder, wow. I've only drank my Crystal Light and had about half a container of Jello, I got 3 cc's in my band during surgery and was scared about how much of it to eat.

OK Tyler-as crazy as it sounds lay on the side that you are having the shoulder pain, it will make the gas go to the center and eleviate the pain. Best of luck

I read if you cut way back on the Crystal Light it will help, alot complain of pain from the aspartane in it. I am only going to use splenda products.

The gas was so bad for me also! I was banded on March31st, but I never got any Gas strips (not sure why) but boy, do I wish I would have! Today is my last day on the clear liquid diet, and Im hating it. I am SO weak. Im dizzy, I have no energy. Ive been trying to drink more gatorade and stuff with some electrolytes but its still not helping. Tonight I may have some Soup, hopefully that will help me. But I havent had many problems with hunger. My tummy makes weird noises but I dont feel any hunger pains, so I think thats a good sign? Haha. Im down 14 lbs so far! Yay! I hope you all have success. God bless you all :D

Gas-x strips are a life saver!!! That and walking walking walking! All hours night and day I've been walking in circles in the back yard. It really helps to get the gas broken up and moving. I'm only drinking Water Protein Shakes and popsicles. What other types of liquid do y'all recommend?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
