how long does your doctor require you to be on a liquid diet? I had my second fill today, and like the last fill, he is requiring me to be on a liquid diet for two days. Then, I can advance to the mushy phase until next Friday. After that, I move back to solid foods. What does your surgeon suggest?

After my last fill, I moved on to solids after a couple of days because I couldn't tell any difference from the fill. Then, about two weeks later, the fill "kicked in" and my intake became smaller and I was full quicker. Have you had that experience?

I had my 1st fill on 3/1 and just recently had the same thing happen - I felt no different, and the 4 days ago I noticed that smaller portions were enough and I didn't really feel like I was hungry. I have my 2nd fill scheduled for 4/14 so I am hoping that might be it for a while, but I am new to this so who knows :) I have eliminated bread altogether now because since my fill I can't handle it. Good luck to you!

Mine calls for 24 hrs full liquids and then 24 mushies. My doctor says it can take two weeks for the fill to take affect.

I just had my first fill. I was told 1 day of liquid, 1 day of mushies, but my paperwork said 2 days of liquid and 1 day of mushies. I did the 2 days of liquid but had a salad for lunch the day I was suppose to start mushies with no probs. I don't think I feel any different. I didnt' know it took a few days for the fill to kick in.

Whether for a fill or unfill, my surgeon requires 48 hrs Clear Liquids, then 48 hours full liquids. After that, I can eat what I like. When I had a unfill once, not done by the surgeon, I was told that unfill wasn't quite as important to follow the liquid diet as a fill. The fill causes swelling, so my surgeon feels it is important to use the liquid diet he prescribes! Karen

Thanks to all of you for your responses. I hate being on liquids. I can't stand the taste of the Protein drinks and I just feel weak. Yuck!! I may go on to some mushy foods today.

I couldn't take the 2 days of liquids either after just getting back on solids. I had a salad for lunch after the 1.5 days. Then i pretty much went back to solids. No problems at all.

My Doc wants 2 1/2 to 3 days of Fluid. Then start the Mushies, and work your way up.

My doc says liquids day of fill, soft or mushy foods that evening, back to solids the next day. If anything gives trouble to back down to liquids and then progress back up a little slower.

HOWEVER, my fills are always very small, .2 or .5, that might be the difference.

I also know my doctor isn't a big fan of liquid calories.. he feels we lose better when we're on regular food.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
