Hello All ! I was banded on March 29th, had my first post-op visit today and was very happy with the outcome ! I started subsituting Protein for one meal since January and I had one week of strictly Protein Shakes prior to surgery. I have been on protein shakes and crystal light drinks, popsicles and Water since surgery. Since January 1st I have lost a total of 33 lbs and of those 33 lbs 16 were from pre-op prep until today 2 weeks after banding ! Dr. says he is very pleased with overall health and mental status. I also had my first fill today, started very small because we are going out of town for a few weeks ! I am so happy everything is going so well ... ( I have had a couple of moody days, but they passed !) Dr. said could go on to normal food, after two more days of liquid because of he fill, but after that be very careful of what I eat. The nurses recommended because we are going to be away to have more mushies that regular food, until we get back. I think I am going to follow their advice just to be safe. A few more weeks can't hurt and why mess up the progress ??? Good luck to everyone else !! Next visit is at the end of the month !!

I had my surgery on the 15th at the same hospitqal, but had the old fashioned way!!! Who was your dr,,, I had Selzer. I go back for my first fill on the 20th! Keep me posted on how you are doing...Rosie

I had my Lapband done on March 28, 2011 at the IU Health Hospital in Carmel Indiana. I am the first one in Indiana that had their surgery done with the Davinci robot. I was in surgery for 2 hours and recovery for 2 hours and release the next day. I was off all pain meds by the third day. I did have a lot of nausea and could not drink anything for a few days but now am doing fine. Still a little weak but gaining daily.

You and I had surgery on the same day,,, but I don't get my first fill for another week,,, will be watching to see how you get along with your fill! Good luck,,,

Rosie

My first fill is due tomorrow, 4 weeks out. It's been miserable waiting I agree! I know there's research that shows the 1st fill happening too soon can lead to band slippage. Try to take heart in knowing this can be a slow process....huge hugs! (I feel your pain)

]I got my first fill yesterday (APRIL 12) and my surgery was March 7th. I was down 18lbs with no restriction. Doctor put in my first 4.5 cc's. I was so nervous about the pain because the site where the port is under is still red and tender. It has had an infection since surgery and I just finished my 30th day on anti-biotics. So it did hurt being pushed and probbed and the shot of lidicaine. It quickly numbed so I didn't feel the actually fill. I am a big baby and most any procedure makes me feel faint. I had to go to Walmart afterwards and I kept getting a little nauseous. Not sure if it was caused by the fill or just because I had only consumed liquid a few hours earlier and I was empty. I didn't feel any physical hunger yesterday but going through the grocery store I wanted to buy everything I could get in the basket!

I wanted to know if any of you are taking Actigal to prevent gall stones. I forgot to fill that prescription and the nurse was a little upset with me. I hear that the capsules are huge and nastly tasting to get down even with pudding. Guess I have to get those today... but want to know if all doctors prescribe this.

Sisterwood, I've had my gallbladder removed years ago so nothing prescribed for me...sorry I'm no help.

Well, in the shower last night I bent forward and to the left and pulled something around my port. My only guess is I ripped a stitch? It's the most pain I've been in since surgery other than getting stuck. I'll bring it up when I go in for my fill today.

Hey everyone!!! So today I moved onto Phase 3 of my after surgery diet, I can now eat fat free cheese and spinach ravolli and thinly sliced deli meat and soft small moist meat, very exciting!! I don't have my first fill till April 27th I'm actually a little nervous about it and might tell my doctor to keep it small since I'll be going on vacation a week afterward. I don't want my first stuck or sick episode to be on Mickey Mouses face :-X I might get banned from Disney!!

Good luck to those getting their first fills and glad to see everyone is doing well. Congrats on the weight losses and everything else we've achieved. I'm actually still in shock that I'll be banded a full month of Friday!!!

So I had my fill today! It was easy-peasie. I had thought my band was empty this whole time but it turns out it's been at 4cc's (in a 10cc band)...so I'm at a total of 5cc's now. The nurse had the doctor come in to look at my port because last night in the shower when I bent forward I felt a sharp pain that is still there...just like I thought the doc says it's a popped port stitch, but he says it'll be ok since there's 3 other stitches and scar tissue by this point all holding it down. It hurts though.

Hey Everybody!!!

Had my 1st fill today! They said they were gonna go easy on my and put in 3cc's as you all remember I had some issues in the beginning. Will do another fill in 6 weeks. So far I have lost a little more than 40 pounds since March 10, when I started my liquid diet....so I am pretty pleased. I started my soft foods over the weekend at that formal party I was talking about....I did ok....I had 2 bites of fish and was good...for the last 2 night I have had 2 tablespoons of ground turkey with 1 tablespoon of greek yogurt for dinner & a mouthful of applesauce....I was pretty full. I still really do not feel a restriction even after today...I will give it a week before I call them to say something. The doctor was very pleased with me and reminded me when I left that anyone can lose weight, but will I be the one of the ones who will keep it off...that statement could not have been more true...it is all about being in a positive mental state of mind and try to keep focused and look at the long term results.

Great news! I was up from 277 to 280 at my appt yesterday and sinc emy fill 24 hrs ago I'm down to 276! Yay!!! I only ate 2 meals last night at work (12 hour shift) and was very clearly not hungry for 4-5 hours at a time. I'm thrilled!!! I for sure have to chew more thoroughly after my fill, and am eating about 1 cup at a time.

I'm glad the doc isn't too worried about the stitch rip thing! I was worried for you! I am going for my first fill on 4/27. I am wondering whether my doc is one of those that wont fill if i am losing okay on my own? I don't know that this will last, the non-hungry feeling. I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out and I am really not feeling hunger. I am also down 19 pounds since the surgery on 3/29. I am eating at least 70 gms of Protein a day, sometimes as much as 100 a day. Heck, I can "diet" with the best of them for a short time. it's after it starts slowing down that i lose my mojo.

I guess i'll have to wait a couple of weeks to see! I have also been dealing with a seroma and have been on antibiotics for the past week. I'm hoping everything is cleared up and I'm ready to go for the fill on the 27th!

It's great to see that all March Bandsters are doing well!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
