Cake in soft foods phase?

Recommended Posts

I dont think so - not because you should never enjoy a piece of cake but because cake must be soft, but like bread, it is a DANGER food. it is very very easy to get stuck and pb on cake, its soft, spongy and soaks up fluids in your stomach. You eat a tiny piece that grows to twice its size in your pouch and before you know it, slime and vomiting. I wouldnt risk it.

Everyone's danger foods are different, I could always eat bread and dense cake like carrot cake, but soft muffins and cakes, no way.

I agree with Effiepoo that there will always be a reason to have a treat. I am not saying you should never have treats. I just think that at two weeks out you are still in the learning phase about retraining yourself on food habits. This is a will power diet until you start to get restriction.

Ask your doctor and if u don't want to out of guilt because of it not being a good food choice-dont eat it. My birthday was last Wed and it was the first time in 36 yrs I didn't binge on cake! I didn't even have any! Yay me! But u do u and don't make a decision u will feel guilty about later!

Goodluck!

I had one tiny (and I do mean tiny) taste of my fiance's slice and I was fine. I was never planning on having a whole slice anyway. The band is something I have to live with forever, and I can't see myself never eating cake or "junk" again. I will never, however, eat it in the portions I used to. The band is teaching me moderation, something I was never able to learn in 27 years. Thanks everyone for your advice!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
