I take an over the counter diuretic probably two to three times a month just b/c sometimes I just feel bloated and yucky and from drinking so much Water. I don't know if we are supposed to or not. I don't watch the sodium intake in my seasonings, I do tend to use alot of garlic, black pepper and italian seasonings but no salt. I had high blood pressure when I started this journey and right after the surgery the surgeon took me off my meds and haven't been on them since and in May it will be a year!!!!! YAY

Caffeine is probably the safest. You can get caffeine pills like No Doz, or drink coffee or tea.

If you have chronic swellin of your legs and have had you need to see a doctor this is not normal and you should really check it out.

I agree with fluffytofabulous, I would not recommend taking a diuretic without talking to your doctor. If you are chronically swollen you could have some sort of medical condition.

I have went to the doctor .......get a physical yearly, no diabetes,no high blood pressure, no medical conditions at all, besides obese. My regular doctor advised it was due to being over weight and my lapband doctor also said it was not bad and with weight loss it would go away. I just hate the look of it not cute at all.lol

I was taken off of my Water pills the day of surgery. My surgeon said that because bandits usually have a tough time getting in enough Water to stay hydrated there is a high risk of dehydration if taking diuretics and therefore he has a strict no diuretic rule.

As for spices, I use garlic, onion, and Mrs. Dash (salt-free) for the most part, along with whatever herbs will complement the food. I love fresh garlic (I grow my own), but it sometimes gives me terrible gas pains.

I believe celery is a natural diuretic. need to be careful eating it due to the amount of fibres. I think you can get celery powder/tablets from Health food shops. Before banding i would chew on celery or put it in Soup (which would probably be OK if cut up fine), now i make my self drink tea (i dont like tea much). I must say the tea isn't helping at all this week, i drink my Fluid and it seems to be staying put, haven't had to get up during the night as usual (a slight bonus) and all my shoes are tight and my weight is up. I am menopausal but still have TOM every second month or so and i think that is what is going on. Might take my own advise and head to the health food store.

I'm a diabetic, and have had swelling in my lower legs for a long time. My endocrinologist has had me on a 20 mg prescription for Furosemide for a # of years now. It has worked. And like clockwork, about 3 or 4 hours after taking a daily pill, I'm off to the bathroom a couple of times to get rid of excess Water weight.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
