Trouble getting my 1st fill :(

Recommended Posts

So yesterday I went to see my doctor to have my 1st fill, well it didn't go that well. He put the needle in and sat me up to start drinking my Water, well the needle came out... so he laid me down and went for my port again and tried putting the saline in and had to have his nurse get more saline, it just kept going in and not retracting like he wanted it to. So he is sending me to have a fill with an xray and he is going to inject some dye into it to see if their is a leak in it and if their is no leak then he will give me my fill and if for some reason my band is messed up....I have to have surgery again to fix it. I am nervous as heck!!! Has anyone ever had the same problem???

Wow..I didn't know that some doctors kept the needle in while you drank the liquid. Mine doesn't -- and I think I am happy about that!

Good luck! It sounds like the right thing to do now to check the band under flouroscopy to make sure everything is where it is supposed to be. I hope it goes well for you!

Thank you :) My doctor keeps the needle in while im drinking to see if he needs to add more saline or take some out... so he doesn't have to poke me again.

It is possible your doc was never in the port so doing it under Xray is good...he can fill you just right. Many docs leave the needle in while the patient drinks, but Xray is the sure fire way to ensure he is in the port, not just in scar tissue.

Good luck, and try not to worry.

My Dr. leaves the needle in too - it was wierd - kinda Frankenstein-like, but I'd rather do that than get poked twice. Good luck with everything - hopefully everything is ok!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
