Awaiting insurance approval ~ getting cold feet :0/

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. My name is Diana and I am a 29 year old social worker, married, no children.

I had my initial consulation on March 15th and at that time I weighed 216. My BMI is 45 and height is 4'10; no other medical conditions. My surgeon told me that I am definately a candidate due to the aforementioned and would not need to go thru the 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery that many other bandsters do. I had my bloodwork done March 28th and nutritional/psych eval done March 29th. Insurance paperwork has been submitted and I'm awaiting approval.

BUT ~~> I'm getting cold feet.

I know this is normal and everyone goes thru it. I'm just wonder to myself, why can't I do it on my own?

What if it doesn't work?!!! Will I have complications when I try to have children?? (preferrably sooner than later)

Please help

Soo scared :0(

Actually im getting the same feeling. Im 28 yr old female, single, no kids but would like to have some hopefully in the future. I am currently going through a 3 month diet supervised by a nutritionist due to insurance requirements but just thinking about how soon it could come is making me nervous so your not alone. I keep thinking...if i buckle down i could do it on my own...do i really want this thing inside me for the rest of my life?...am i gonng be able to feel it inside me?...what if it doesnt work? All these things keep going through my head but what we need to realize is we have tried to do it on our own and obviously it didnt work or we wouldnt be considering the surgery in the first place. All i can say to you is follow your instincts and do what you think is right for you but your not alone, there are many people out there that are going through the same thing right now. Hope this helped a little :D

Hello! Welcome to the boards :-) My name is Elizabeth (or Liz) 27 single no kids. I was banded a little over 2 weeks ago after waiting about a year and half for this surgery. Once I had a date I had a bad case of cold feet probably up until they put me under but next thing I knew I was waking up and here I am weeks later and feeling great. As long as you follow your doctors orders you should be fine. My surgeon suggested I not get pregnant for at least a year to a year and a half after surgery but other than that there shouldn't be any problems with you getting pregnant with your band.

Hope I was of some help. :-)

The nice thing about the band is they can "unfill it" for pregnancy. I'm almost 36, married, and have 3 kids (and am having no more)...but I also got cold feet right up until they put me uner. Like Liz, I was banded just March 15th and am SO GLAD I had it done. I haven't seen huge weight loss yet, but I have so much more energy! And I know in time the weight loss will happen. Just know the anxiety/cold feet is totally normal. We're all here to help you in this journey...whatever your final decision is.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
