Jenni,

I am going through the same exact thing! I was oddly happy to log on and see your post. Not because I am happy that you are hungry, but happy that I am not alone! I was banded on 3/10. As of 3/25 I had lost 9lbs. Of course I had been on a liquid diet for 3 weeks. My doctor started me on normal foods as of the 27th, but told me to start with softer foods first to make sure I had no problems. I returned back to work on the 28th and have gained back 4 pounds. I am freaking!! I have not had any fills yet. I am starving all of the time, but trying to really watch what I eat and not eat to much. I don't feel like i can get full. Please, someone tell me this will change and I will be successful! I hope someone can give us some advice and encouragement.

Just stick with your diet. It does get better. I was banded in October and the first month or so was the toughest. I was hungry all the time. I think most banded people refer to it as Bandster Hell, and that's what it felt like for me. Once I started getting my fills, I found that I was satisfied with less food (although until you reach restriction, you still do get pretty hungry at times). It's been about 5 1/2 months and just a little less than 60 lbs. lost for me and I wouldn't change my decision for anything. I feel so much better than when I started this whole journey.

Thanks for the encouragement. I don't regret getting banded, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't getting a little discouraged this week. I have been doing some reading the last few hours and i am starting to wonder if maybe some of my weight re-gain (?) might be due to not getting enough Protein everyday. i am struggling to get at least 60 grams of protein per day. I try really hard, but it gives me horrible gas pains that are almost intollerable. I can't wait until I get my first fill. :) I know things will get better.

I'm right there with you guys!! I was banded on 3/15 and I have had my doubts since then!!!! What the heck was I thinking?? I just have to keep reminding myself that its a long term process and my overall health and longevity was worth it. But, damn I want a hamburger and fries!!!! lol. Hang in there, it will get better......i hope!!!!

Anyone got food ideas besides baked potatoes and mashed potatoes and cream of what!!! I'm so bored with that!!!!

I'm a slow loser averaging 1 pound a week. There are a lot of us who are slow losers so don't be disappointed if this is your experience. This is a will power diet until you get some restriction help. And even at restriction I don't feel full while eating. I get a full feeling after I stop. So I measure my food and stop when it's gone.

1. You don't lose much weight when you are healing, which is the first 6 weeks, since your body is kind of in shock from not eating, and surgery and all that.

2. Hunger goes away after the fills, that is their purpose.

3. Average weight loss is 1-2lbs a week, on about a 1200 calorie diet, that is what's healthy. Some people lose more if they are extremely heavy and it comes off faster, or if they push their diet and exercise to the max. For me some weeks it's 1lb, some weeks it's 2-2.5, depends how good i am on my diet. It's still easy to cheat and go off track.

Fat free Refried Beans are awesome. Good Protein and the fat free ones taste just like regular. Dannon makes a carb control yogurt that i ate daily. Cottage cheese, pureed chili or bean Soups. I didnt eat any potato or cream Soups so i know there are lots of other choices. Once you are done healing you will be able to eat a variety of foods that include lean Proteins and veggies. Potatoes aren't great for weight loss but you are healing and should focus on that for now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
