Waiting patiently in Charlotte, N.C.

Recommended Posts

HI Everyone, I have been approved by the insurance company and am now just waiting for a date. I am excited, nervous, scared and anxious all at the same time. I have so many questions about what to do and not do but will be attending a pre-op class at my surgeons office. Can anyone out there tell me how long the actual procedure takes ?

I think my surgery was about 30 minutes, maybe less. I had my surgery done at an outpatient center, arrived at 7am to fill out paperwork and get my IV and was heading home about 10:30am. Everything went great and moved right along. After I woke up, they had me walking with help from a nurse and my hubby and after a little more rest and another couple walks I was on my way home.

I had the typical 5 incision laparoscopic procedure. Some people are opting for a one incision, through the belly button procedure which I think takes a bit longer, and then there is an open procedure which I believe takes the longest but is much more rare. I'm sure you'll hear about this at your consult or seminar. Good Luck! You've made a great decision!

I arrived at the hospital at 5:45am and got home at 3:30pm. I do live an hour away however. The actual procedure (lap band with gastric plication for me) was about an hour long. I had the 5 incisions like Kristi (same day too). so glad to go home the same day, but they did keep encouraging me to stay the night if i felt like i needed to. i didn't want to. Good luck with everything... I'm on day 6 post-op.

Hey, I am from Charlotte too, who is your surgeon? Mine is Dr Vollinger at Southeast Bariatrics. I was at the hospital at 5:30 am, had a 7am slot. I was home and in my own bed by 1pm. No complications :) Good luck with your journey, no regrets here.

got banded on 1/20 and have lost 30 total since the preop, and 40 from my first consult. I feel great. He is a great surgeon, I had no complications, in and out. I wish you the same.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
