I know this is not the "intro" forum, but I was so excited to see there is a special section for those with PCOS - I just wanted to say hi! <BR>My name is Tara, I'm about to turn 30, and I was diagnosed with PCOS about 2 years ago now (actually self-diagnosed, because my hair started falling out in male pattern baldness, and I googled it, then confirmed with gyno and then endo - sadly I had symptoms for over 10 years but my pcp or gyno never thought of it or checked my hormone levels, and I had never heard of it!) I found out I am alergic to metformin, and I've been unable to lose/keep off more than 20 lbs. The PCOS risk factors/complications are what really made me decide to get the surgery - I'm so excited about it and look forward to reading how others experience with PCOS/symptoms has been after surgery/weight loss! Fianlly finished the long process and all my appointments over the last 4 months, pre-op appointment with my surgeon is 4/6 :)

Wishing you good luck! I am also 30. Was banded 11/16, I am on metformin. I have lost 30 lbs so far and am thrilled with my progress. Peeling off 1 lb was torture for me before the band. I am so happy I did it!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
