They are good but shouldn't be your go-to Protein source. Focus on getting Protein from lean meats (ie. chicken, fish, turkey, etc.)

The problem with Protein Bars is that they are often high in fat, sugars, and sometimes carbs. They are good to have on the go but most of them are not a good diet staple. I do like Quest Protein Bars however.

As for unflavored protein; no idea. I hated the kind I have so it's just collecting dust.

I do a Protein bar every morning for Breakfast. A Protein shake would give me more Protein, but I just want to chew something and I can't make myself get up early enough to go through the production of cooking something like eggs.

They aren't the best source of protein, but they do the trick for me.

i think my point of view on Protein bars is that eating fake, manufactured, quick and easy food is what got me into this mess to begin with. so i decided that protein bars would only be an emergency food if i really needed it. but i'm trying to focus on eating real foods that are healthy. my mantra is: if it grows, ok to eat it (funyuns and taco bell and balance bars don't grow...) :-)

that's just my take. i figure if i'm really going to change, i really need to do it.

I just bought some Pure Protein bars at Wal Mart recently. They have 20g of protein but they are also 200 calories each. I keep them for that "I just need something Sweet" craving. At least I am getting something beneficial out it!

I'm a believer in the Protein bars. I eat the Zone Perfect Bars,(12 g Protein, 190 calories) usually for my mid-afternoon snack at work. Usually drop one in my purse if I'm going to be out and about on the weekends--saves me from the "I'm starving, what shall I eat?" issue. At my last appointment, my NP suggested I stop drinking Protein Shakes for Breakfast. Said I'm not utillizing my band but relying solely on protein for hunger control doing this. So I ate one of the protein bars for breakfast this morning. (Like someone else said, I don't have time in the mornings for cooking.) It did keep me full longer than the shake usually does. I get them a lot cheaper at Sams's than Wal-mart or the drug stores sell them. I really like the taste of the chocolate Almond and the Double Dark Chocolate. My kids do too, but they don't get much candy... I haven't tried any of the other flavors.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
