Any pregnant Aussies?

Recommended Posts

I was banded for 2.5 years before I fell pregnant, so it was a considerable time. I know how you feel though.

Scared as hell.

The important thing to remember is that you probably wouldn't have ever fallen pregnant without the band, and although it is a setback now, you can get back on track later. Just maintain a healthy pregnancy diet. Don't fall into the 'I'm eating for 2" business. Doctors have confirmed that you should still be only eating the normal amount. Just make sure you keep up your Iron, your baby will need it. Eat healthy and after baby is born, it won't be as much as a shock to you when you start your healthy lifestyle again.

Before this pregnancy, you didn't have much to blame yourself for regarding your weight. Now you have a baby to think of. Don't risk diabetes in pregnancy etc. Take care of yourself, and you and your baby will be fine!!!

My pregnancy with my daughter was wonderful. She is now four and in the extended preschool program. She (somehow) got some clever genes and is so damn clever!!

I hope all is wonderful for you as it is for me.

Kim

Hi

I am post op 6 weeks and just found out I am pregnant. I am a bit concerned as they say to wait for a year and now i dont know if I will even have a fill - as I haven't had one yet. ;) How long did you have the band in before falling pregnant?

I'm also an aussie! :D

Lynda

I was banded a little over a year but was hoping to wait for two years!

Lynda, they do say to wait for year if you can, but they also say that about a normal pregnancy and I know plenty of women who have found themselves pregnant again weeks and months after their baby is born. Don't worry too much. If you find you have morning sickness and are vomitting all the time talk to your gp. You can safely take maxalon or stematil if you have to.

Be happy that you are pregnant! It is a time to treasure!

What state are you in? I am in the NT.

Lynda, I know how you feel. I was banded for 3 months when i fell pregnant. I had alot of mixed feelings & alot of questions. Don't get me wrong, i want to be pregnant, (this will be our 3rd) but i also wanted to loose some weight with the band.... I'm now 3 months pregnant & still have my fill of 2.5ml. You will get your first fill, but it wont be until your babys born. Good luck & keep in touch...

Trish

I'm also an Aussie, in NSW

Just found I have gestational diabetes! :phanvan Its more of a pain in the butt than anything. I had it with 2nd pregnacy but not with 3rd. Now I have to travel to Alice SPrings and spend a week there just to see a specialist for a half hour consult! Oh well. Its just a hassle coz then I come back home for a week and a half and then go back to actually have the baby.

Ho Hum...

Hi All,:preggers:

just an update... diabetes is frustrating me, but I will survive! I have also had elevated blood pressure according to one nurse, but beaut blood pressure for another - who knows! Any way, going to town to have the baby on Wed. 3rd.

Obs. has said that due to the diabetes he wants to keep baby in for a little longer. I am officially booked in for c section on 15 May. Apparently g-diabetes hinders the maturity of the lungs. I never knew that! (Thought I knew jsut about everything to do with babies and pregnancy!

So, the next time you here from me, I will be post pregnancy and ready to get back into life!!!:biggrin1:

We were hoping to have 6 or 7 kids, but as I get a little older each time, I am beginning to wonder about that!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
