How do you puree chicken, etc.?

Recommended Posts

So i got clearance at my two week post op to move on to pureed foods. Do I buy a food processor? I have never pureed something before. Maybe this is dumb question.

I used a hand stick blender... For pureed I ate things like chili, thick Soups, finely ground meat, oatmeal, Beans

You can use the blender or food processor with a little chicken broth. Probably be kind of gross haha.

This. PS chicken ground up is NOT so bad. It turns into a tuna-fish like texture. I still do it today LOL with ranch dressing and carrots. :P

I didn't put anything in a food processor or puree anything that wasn't meant to be eaten that way. It was just way too gross.

I found plenty of foods that were already mushy. Cottage cheese, yogurt, apple sauce, smoothies, oatmeal, Soup ......

I would try canned chicken. It isn't bad. You could add a little lite mayo or cream cheese to it. I have a recipe called a chicken roll up. You pureed chicken and put onion and cream cheese in it. then, you put it inside a crescent roll. I would skip the crescent roll but the filling is good by itself. I also bought some frozen fish since you don't have to pureed it.

Hope this helps!

I bought the rocket blender which is very small and has a small canister along with a larger one. The smaller one is perfect size to blend or chop up your chicken, tuna, or whatever you want. I mix miracle whip fat free, and add celery, onion or even pickle relish to it. Yum. Can eat this on whole wheat crackers. You can also use this small blender to make your Protein Shakes in. I still have the Protein shakes when I feel I have over indulged I make up for it by having a Protein Shake for Breakfast. Plus the added protein is good for you and helps you to feel full. The more protein you have the better. You can even sprinkle it on some of your other foods to get it in your diet. I have sprinkled the powder in sugar free puddings and other foods which you can't even taste it. Good luck! :)

i didn't use a food processor either. I ate lots of Beans, fat free refried beans, tuna and scrambled eggs. My surgeon said there was no need to puree scrambled eggs or canned tuna.

Sprinkling Protein Powder on food is a fantastic idea. I gagged down a chocolate Protein Shake this morning. I may try this in a few minutes (I'm due for another shake) with a sugar free pudding. It only adds 60 calories and I am sure it is much better.

Thanks,

Rachael

Well can't you just do canned chicken haha. Just seems like a lot of trouble to make a chicken breast and then mush it.

I do turkey meatloaf. I buy the ground turkey and added egg beater, a little bread crumb, onion Soup mix and some BBQ Sauce. I then sprayed cupcake pans and made mini loafs and cooked them about 35 min at 350.. I made mashed cauliflower and also put it in the cupcake pans and froze it. I then popped them out and froze a baggie of cauliflower and turkey meatloaf. Heated it in microwave at work, added BBQ sauce to the whole mess and it was damn good, plus Portion Control. I cheat w/ cauliflower and make the easy steamers and then put it in food processor w/ a little FF sourcream to smooth it out. I sometimes add FF shredded cheese and a little bacon bits and make "loaded cauliflower".

I am glad you posted this but honestly, I cannot bring myself to puree chicken or any meat? I just don't think I could deal with it consistency wise....chicken should not be like pudding....it's a physical thing and it might taste okay but I will stick with plenty of other mushie things that I can get down and I'll probably do the canned chicken, tuna and white fish the whole time. They (doctors office) also suggested baby food meat...seriously, no wonder babies spit that stuff out....

I put my food processor on the counter during the mushie food phase. Cooking some fresh chicken and throwing it in the food processor was so quick and tasted way better than the canned stuff. I would mix different things like broth, ranch dressing, low carb BBQ Sauce etc. It was fabulous.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
