hi all

i'm 2 weeks post op and am still really fatigued and slow. i had to go to target and the grocery store today and also took a walk with my dog and it totally wiped me out! i guess i'm just surprised because i expected to be pretty close to 100% by now. i'd say i'm at 70%.

does anyone remember how long it took to feel completely healed and normal?

Took a few weeks for me to feel better. Your body is adjusting to new caloric intake and the trauma from surgery etc. I didnt get back to excercising til 6 wks post off. Doc said body has to begin recovering. Rest if you need to and take short walks. Also make sure you getting enough Protein and your Vitamins

I can't help answer your question, but I feel the same way. I had my post op appointment today (banded 3/18) which was about 1 1/2 hours away. Then, dh and I stopped at Target. I got stuff for my kids' Easter Basket/Easter Egg hunt, since I had extra money right now. I was in there less than an hour and had to come home and take a nap. The great thing though--no more clear liquids--I never want to see sugar free Jello again...LOL.

My friend who got the band last year said it took her about a month to get completely back to normal.

it took me a few weeks; the one thing i always tell people who are feeling fatigued is that, the one thing i really lacked after surgery was a little sugar. i incorporated one service (between 1/4 and 1/2 cup) of unsweetened applesauce for the natural sugars, and that helped TREMENDOUSLY with my energy.

cool, thanks all. yeah, i ate some applesauce today. my carbs and Protein have been around 60 each per day, which is what they're supposed to be, but i could only get up to like 700 calories, which might be why i'm still weak (not losing either because cals too low). so i tried to up my food intake today a bit and got up to 1000 calories but my carbs and Protein were at 100 each!! i don't know how you're supposed to get to 1200 calories with only 60 grams each of carbs and protein.

thanks for your input appreciate it!

i average between 600-700 calories a day unless i splurge. i asked my nutritionist last time i was there (a few months ago) if i am eating too few calories, and all he said was, don't go over 1200. as long as i'm not starving, i stick around that range, and i don't normally feel fatigued. you're still so new from surgery; it might just be your body still healing/recovering.

i've stopped losing though at 600-700 so i thought i might need to increase to get out of starvation mode? maybe i should go see the nutritionist again.

you may have to toy around with your calories a little bit to see what works for you. i've read varying beliefs about starvation mode. some people believe it doesn't actually exist; others claim it does. i don't know what to believe. i'm just six months out from surgery, so i'm definitely still learning myself. my body is finicky...i have to stick with fewer calories in order to lose. i work out at least an hour or more everyday, either running, hiking, zumba, etc, so i end up with a pretty big calorie deficit most days. if you can stick around 1200 cals a day and lose, i'd definitely do it!

yeah, i'm just 2 weeks post op so i think it's going to take some toying around with things to see where the best spot is for me. thanks for your input.

I read on another lap band board(Obesityhelp.com) that a lapbander was only taking in 700-800 calories and not losing. Her Doctor told her to up to about 1200, and she lost about 5 lbs that week alone.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
