Recommended Posts

Ok all... Wondering what we're all paying for our fills in Mexico? Also, what doctor are you going to?

My doctor charges $50 for a fill in his office (in the same building as the hospital). If you need the flouroscope, that is either $75 or $100. The entire day's transportation, to and from the nearest major airport, is only $25 --- but a large van is used and "fill trips" are scheduled, on Saturdays.

My doc is free, unless I use fluoroscope, then it is $120.00. Personally I will not do it with out the scope, I want to make sure things are going well. I know another doc charges 70.00, and an additional 175. if you where not banded by him.

So which docs do you use? I'm just trying to see if there's a doc in TJ that is easier to get into than mine. Having a hard time working around the schedule there... :)

Mine is across the Texas border, in a small town. Where do you live? The trips leave the city at 8:30 am in the morning, are back to catch early evening flights out. Some people spend a night or two at the airport La Quinta and use the shuttle.

ah ... you live in Vegas. Mountain time? Pacific? It would be an EARLY departure, but you could still make it a day trip. I just checked his website, and he does do fills on other doctor's patients, but I don't know if his fee varies. He DOES need to know ahead of time just exactly what band you have (see your device box & documents and have them on hand when you email or call).

There is a trip this Saturday. Interested?

Actually, you living in Las Vegas --- were you aware there are two local fill techs who will come to your home or place of business to give you a fill? They do follow-ups at the requests of several surgeons like de la Garza. Can't do it less expensively.

if you can send me the information on these people through a PM, that'd be great. i actually think I might know who/what you are talking about, and am worried they aren't very "credible" if you know what I mean... but I'm certainly open to checking it out. i sooooooo appreciate all your help! :)

Heavens, I don't know anything about them -- I just happened onto their webpage one day a couple of months ago. But I do know that Dr. Kuri has regular fill dates when he is in town, so you could contact his website.. and also, as I said, Dr. De La Garza of Monterry, his website, too, as he refers to these independents I mentioned.

Theresa,

Can you send me a private message with their website information? I'll check it out. :)

My fills are free and he uses fluoro every time. My only cost is the flight. They even pick me up from the airport and put me up in the hotel hospital for free. My dr. is Dr. de la Garza and I think that he is wonderful. He is in Monterrey

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
