Day 5 of Preop Liquid Diet (Question!)

Recommended Posts

So I started my preop on Thursday. Its been rough but nothing im going to roll over & die because of. I posted a few days ago when i was on day 1 or 2 and i was extreemly weak and tired, i was even starting to look pale (other family members noticed) i have dropped 7 lbs in the last 4 days which i havent weighed myself yet today. I still have another 10 days to go before surgery & im super nervous. My diet is strictly liquids the last 3 days ive been having a hard boiled egg (WHITES ONLY) because I feel like im loosing all energy & strength & i have a hyperactive 3 year old so I dont have room to be burnt out & tired with no energy. Is this bad that ive been having egg whites daily for the past 3 days. I eat one in the morning and one in the evenings. I dont want it to affect my liver shrinking yet i dont understand why some doctors required the 2 week preop and some dont when everyone wants there liver shrunk, so my question is, is having an egg white in the morning and evening of a 2 week preliquid diet going to affect my liver shrinkage? today i have not have egg whites and i dont feel like i had much energy as i did yesterday, im hoping today ill go without them even if it makes me tired all day.

I am on my 2 week liquid diet too :) I have cheated myself, and have seen quite a few posts about others cheating too. Every doctor is different. My neighbor and I are going through this at the same time, with different doctors, and she just has to do the Atkins diet for two weeks, and liquids the day before....seems a little unfair, for us two week liquid-ers. If I feel the need to cheat, I have kept it extremely low carb (in the way of the Atkins style) Just like you, that usually means eggs, or low fat cheese. Also, I read a page where someone else had to do the full liquid diet, but could do broth too, not just shakes (like im supposed to) so I got some low sodium broth and added lots of non salty spices to make it taste good. The problem with me and the shakes, is that im constantly cold. I posted a similar post about this topic earlier called "a little confused" and a lot of people gave good advice on the replies, so reading that may help too. Other than that, you are almost there! Hang in there!! Since your screen name is Army Wife.....I was wondering where you are stationed....im an army wife too. Right now I live in TX because my hubby is deployed, but we are actually stationed at Ft. Sill.

Thanks for the reply, i figured an egg a day wouldnt hurt compared to others not having to do the diet at all. I know after the surgery I definately will not eat because I want to heal correctly, right now I just feel the need of energy, I have a full support system with my family that will be taking my son daily to school and picking him up for the week or two after surgery so i will be okay feeling loss of energy since Ill have alot more help after. My husbands deployed to Afghanistan right now, we are stationed in Germany. Ill inbox you maybe we can keep in touch. =D

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
