I'm going to be banded on March 31st. Just like some people, I"m extremely nervous. I was just wondering what should I expect that day? Also is there anything that I should bring from home? I've heard some people like to bring pillows.

Are you spending the night? Bring a loose pair of pants (ie. pajama/sweat pants) a t-shirt, and slippers/socks to go home in/walk around in. A pillow to hold against your stomach on the ride home is a good idea. Bring your Gas-X, maybe a book/iPod/cell phone/laptop if you'll be staying overnight.

Good luck!

Pillow is great for the ride home. You might want to bring chapstick. My lips got really dry becase I wasn't allowed to drink even Water until the did a barium swallow. Congrats on your impending surgery!

Pillows are a must! When I got out of surgery and was able to walk, a nurse gave me one to put on my stomach to help me sit down and get up and also for the ride home as others were saying. It helps a lot. But I didn't know what to bring, so I didn't have one, but they were nice enough to let me keep it. :) Good luck with your surgery! You'll do great I don't think you have anything to worry about! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
