Surgery Scheduled for 4/19

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

My name is Tammy. I am 48 years old. Mother of two, grandma of one. Ready to change my life. I am about 100 pounds overweight. I start my 3 week preop diet tomorrow. I feel bad because I have really been cheating over the past week trying to get the last taste of my favorite foods. I am ready to start my new journey tomorrow. I was torn between bypass and lapband. My insurance company would only approve lapband so here I am. I AM READY. I WILL SUCCEED. I am starting this new journey for my health. I want to be around a long time for my kids and grandkids. Look forward to making some great friends here and help contribute to a support system.

Hi from another forty-something! Congratulations on your surgery date and best wishes to you. I can't wait until I have my date and this is all over with. I don't have any grandkids yet but I hope to be around to see them when I do! I just started my supervised diet that could be as long as 6 months depending on whether the insurance will accept some previous dieting I did. I've cut out Coke and candy so far. I've lost 5 lbs. just doing that. It's hard sometimes when I'm in the mood for chocolate. But I keep ss ff pudding and Protein Drinks handy. They really do help.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
