wisdomseeker 0 Posted March 27, 2011 I am a new member, obviously, and I was banded on 3/17/11. And I have GAINED 3lbs!!!! I spoke with my Doctor and he said not to worry that is probably Water weight and some swelling from surgery. My surgery was a little more involved since I also had a hiatal hernia repair which was not anticipated. My Doctor also told me that since my band has no saline I should not worry about a great weight loss and just focus on healing drinking water, maintaining a 1000-1200 calorie diet and EXERCISE!!!!! But, still, I worry, does this sound reasonable? Any advice, suggestions, ideas????? Thank you!!
Cocoabean 430 Posted March 27, 2011 Listen to your doctor. Relax. Lapband is not about fast weight loss. You need to heal and get fills. It is about calorie restriction. Weight loss is an AVERAGE of 1-2 pounds per week. This is after you have healed from the surgery and gotten to a good restriction level with fills. Give it time. CAROLYNFC 24 Posted March 28, 2011 I was baned 3/14/2011 and came home from the hospital 3 lbs. heavier. I didn't lose any weight until the end of my first week. I go tomorrow for my 2 week check up and I am down 14 lbs. I had a lot of Fluid the first few days. I am a new member, obviously, and I was banded on 3/17/11. And I have GAINED 3lbs!!!! randysgirl 0 Posted March 28, 2011 Your doctor is right, your body goes through a lot during surgery. The weight will come off if you stick to your plan of drinking Water, watching calories, exercising and remember " Protein first". Best of luck, Karen

Thank you!! hi, I had my lapband on the 18th jan 2011 and also did not notice any significant weight loss until i started having band adjustments. I dont think you should worry to much - after starting to move onto solids and getting my appetite back I gain alittle as well.....I have now lost 15 kg since the band! I would suggest if you dont loss weight after the adjustments then worry - but at moment focus on recovery from the op.
Momto3redheads 18 Posted March 28, 2011 Oh yes that is exactly correct! I had a hernia repaired that we didn't know I had, as well as got my tubes tied when they put in my lapband....(figured we'd just knock everything out while they were in there!) The first 6 weeks post op are to heal heal heal --- NOT lose! Stay off the scale as it will make you miserable...seriously. I gained a couple lbs in the 6 week post op - but I truly didn't care as you HAVE to let your body heal and get ready to go on this journey with you - if it isn't getting the nutrients it needs to heal then you will be in even more trouble....so don't fret. (and the first week or two post surgery you are drinking so much Fluid and the Water retention from the surgery, etc...we all were up a few lbs initially) Be sure to get lots of Protein in - I love the Herbalife shakes and I add unjury Unflavored Protein powder to them....I buy it on Amazon. I have a shake every morning to start the day. Be sure to stay hydrated, too ---- as that is important....I notice that when I am not hydrated is when I am more likely to feel ultra tight and unable to tolerate things as well. Hang in there - you are just starting your journey - it is a LONG haul, but SOOOOOO worth it! Kim
dmom 1 Posted March 28, 2011 I agree not to worry about gaining right after surgery. I was banded 3/21/11 and I was up 4 lbs or so after surgery. I started walking as much as I could to get rid of the gas pain and as of today I am down 6 lbs from surgery. Just follow the drs orders and relax. It will all be ok. I have read that if you do lose weight within the first few weeks, it is just a bonus. As everyone else is saying, focus on letting your body heal.
