Tough first month

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have been banded since Dec 13th and since the 2nd week I have really been struggling. I am always hungry, I am not supposed to snack between meals but my stomach is screaming to be fed.:hungry: For the most part I only snack on good stuff-yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese. I am trying not to eat past 7pm but I get so hungry around 9 that I will snack. I have lost 15lbs which is good but I had hoped for more. I know my whole situation is a common but I just feel that I shouldn't be so hungry or be able to eat as much as I am. I will get my 1st fill on Feb. 17th and my Dr. will not budge... I just had to complain a little, I knew to expect this but I had hoped to be one of the "chosen few" who didn't suffer with hunger until their 1st fill. Other than that I haven't had any side effects at all! Port site is great and only mildly sore when I twist a little too much. I guess over all I really shouldn't be complaining! Thanks for listening though

Hugs, Lisa!!

Just stock up on raw veggies until that fill comes around. Sorry you are suffering!

If it makes you feel any better, you can point and laugh when I come back to whine a month after my surgery, OK?

:]

I was banded December 9th, I havent suffered from hunger at all but I also havent lost much more than you. I've lost 19lb which I'm thrilled to bits with and as a lower BMI patient, that much is quite visible on me. I'v gone down at least a clothes size.

You've done brilliantly to lose 15 if you're hungry all the time. Hang in there, but boy youv'e got a long wait for that fill. I'm scheduled for next week. You can do it, just keep doing what you're doing.

Lisa, you are doing wonderful! It is good you can vent here and get it off your chest or stomach??? What's your surgeons schedule for introducing foods....liquids-mushies-solids? Shawn

I am on regular foods now and have not had a problem with anything but I also chew, chew and chew. I have been having a really hard time counting calories. I make everything homemade..stew, Soup stuff like that. How do you count calories for things like that? I wish there was a calorie book out there to help-I could be eating 2000 calories a day for all I know. I have never looked forward to a needle (fill) so much in my life.

Beanie- I am not allowed raw veggies for a while....carrots would be great!

Lisa,

I'm gonna make a suggestion. If you are really hungry, my guess is that you need protein... 60 - 80 grams per day. A silly egg only has 7 grams and you would be eatting for days. A carnation instant Breakfast with a scoop of whey powder 20grams(walmart) will give you such a boost, and you will not be hungry. Make it warm in the morning and iced in the afternoon and warm again before bedtime. Look for soy products to give added protein.... and because it takes longer to digest you won't need to eat as frequently. Congrats on the weight loss. I would kill for a 15lb loss today!

Hugs :)

find a way to determine what the calories are for each item you are putting into your homemade meals. then add them all together. Then guesstimate what percentage of that total you are eating as your serving. That will give you a rough estimate as to how many calories you are eating. HTH!!

I'm with dutchgirl upping your Protein intake will diminish hunger. Protein Shakes are the best way to go for big protein. I am not a huge fan myself but I found that if I make them smaller and drink them while they are cold they are OK. Try adding 2 4 oz shakes to your routine. Especially at night time instead of munching.......

Bummer about the veggies... Sorry, I didn't catch that you are still on liquids/mushies.

**I know that for some people, that no snacking business just doesn't work. Maybe try having four small meals a day? And the Protein shake idea is a good one.

When you feel ravenous - or for your 4th meal - have a Protein Shake. Atkins or Carb solutions are good, if you are counting carbs.

Lisa I had the same problem...still do. I'm hungry every 2 hours but now that I'm healed I can eat like a horse.

Drink lots of Water and if you need to eat inbetween, it does help and in my case it helps me not go nuts for the next meal.

INHO if your hungry EAT! Can you do crackers? some lowfat ones or even pudding, some mushy meat, do what works for you.

Hugs !!!

Oh hot Soups help ALOT!!!
