First Consultation Scheduled for next Week

Recommended Posts

I have been researching this option for myself for a few years now. I have wanted to have it done so badly. My primary doctor had referred me to someone last year and don't you know, the day I called to schedule my consult, I was told the Dr. quit the day before and they didn't know what was going on. Needless to say, I decided to hold off and I'm glad I did. There is finally a Dr/Hospital in my more immediate area that performing this surgery now. So, I scheduled my consult for next week. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. My only fear is that I hope my insurance doesn't make me go through a grueling waiting period for the approval needed. I think I have that covered with documentation from my primary, but right now, that's about my biggest fear.

On average, how long did it take for you guys to get the insurance approval and then from that point, how long until the surgery was scheduled?

I have the same questions. I've been thinking about this surgery for many years but my insurance wouldn't carry it. Now I habe my DH, bcbs il, and they do. I go for my consult on april 15 and I am so excited, but extremely nervous that I won't get approved. Im 5'3ish 220+ so my bmi is 37-39. I don't know exacts...sorry. I have acid relux, back and shoulder pain (40 E), and possibly sleep abnea, but I haven't done a test yet.

Good luck to you. Let me know how it turns out!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
