Hi guys,

I'm 9 days out of surgery and I have two questions. The first is that I still have pain on the side where my port is. It's gotten less, but when I do too much it really starts to hurt again. (when I say do too much, i mean walk around target for an hour) Is this normal?

Also, sorry to be gross, but I'm still on the liquid diet and everything that comes out of my butt is pure liquid. I go like 6 to 8 times a day, and it's nothing but pure liquid. Gross, I know, but is this what you guys experienced?

Your first question is yes! You can be sore on and off for a while. I am over 4 weeks out and just got done being sore around my port. Completely normal!!

Question 2... liquids in equals liquids OUT! Yes normal again! I had my first fill today and been on Clear Liquids and I can concur it happens anytime you go on just liquids. It will get better when you start mushies!!

You are doing great!

Yep to both. I know my port still hurts sometimes, and I am almost 14 months out. It is sore today for some reason. The pooping issues get better. I had a few bathroom issues after surgery as well.

Definately...Yes & Yes! Actually I was worried I would be bloated and constipated like some people mention....I feel better knowing everything is moving through rolleyes.gif

LOL. Yes and yes as previously stated. I had several accidents not knowing that your bowels get loose. My doc says perfectly normal and it will balance out. My port also aches sometimes for no reason and Im 6 months out. Its also really sore to touch after I get a fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
