I swear that I'm having carb withdrawals. I have 5 days left of my liquid diet, and I'm going nuts. I think about food all the time; I even dream about it! I want to cheat with purees (seriously mushy asparagus sounds divine right now). How do you stick to healthy eating when you have to spend 30 days eating bleh food? I can't take another spoonful of yogurt or pudding! How did you guys get through this?

I made different flavors of sugar free Jello and put them in those little dixie cups for 1 serving. I know it seems like forever without a decent meal, but this is the time you lose alot of your weight. Good luck, I fed my cravings and I am up from my best post op weight! Advice from someone who's been there, find something else to do when you want to snack or eat what you aren't suppose to, like crochet, knit, wash dishes, take a bath, and remember this isn't forever.

Those first weeks post op are the toughest. Just remember it will get better. I remember a couple of weeks after I had my surgery my husband had order a pizza for himself and my son. I seriously thought I would kill someone for a slice of that pizza LOL! In the long run, it's been so worth it to stick to the diet. I was banded October 15, and I'm down 60 lbs.

Thanks guys! I have been so hungry. I am about one week post op and am on Clear Liquids. Milk, cream Soups, yogurt and sugar free pudding sound so good to me right now. I know I can get through this. It's not forever. I have a friend who is my biggest supports. She got the band last year and has lost 85lbs. At least I am losing. 10lbs since surgery. Not too bad.

I swear I love this site, whatever I am thinking/feeling there is always someone on here having similar issues.

Thanks,

Rachael

that clear liquid stage is so hard. I would make a mug of really warm chicken broth and sip on it. The low sodium one tasted like rotisserie chicken to me. That and coffee or a sugar free international mocha coffee in the evening. Anything warm seemed to make me feel better for some reason. Hang in there. I just started eating regular foods tonight again. I've lost 22lbs pre-op/post op. My surgery was March 4. It has all been worth it and quickly forgotten tonight after eating regular food again.

You'll get through it!! I know at the time it seems impossible...but you'll be fine. My toughest part was 10 days before my surgery....it included Christmas!!!! It seemed like it was going to be the end of the world. I also was "DREAMING" about food.< /span>

Hang in there.... in a short time, you'll be wanting a fill to help slow down your hunger. laugh.gif

If you're truly eating carb-free (and many 'liquids' are still pretty high in carbs), then yes you most likely are going through carb withdrawal. The good news is that 7-10 days of very low carb and the withdrawal is complete. The physical cravings should go away, but you may still have to deal with the "but I want what I want" desires, although they also lessen quite a bit. However, if you're really eating yogurt or pudding (even the sugar free), then you aren't going through carb withdrawal because they're both pretty high in carbs. Which isn't to say you aren't craving 'real food'. :)

Just keep reminding yourself why you're doing this. Write up a list and stick it to your fridge if you have to. You can do this!

Unjury makes a Protein Powder in chicken Soup flavor that got me through the liquid stage. My mom tried it when she came to visit one day and loved it as well - it's delicious! The Protein in it helps keep you feeling full longer and really helped keep me from feeling hungry. If you decide to try it, just be sure not to heat your Water to over 130 *F (it doesn't hurt the soup, but it changes the texture of the protein so you get little pieces of protein in your broth - still tastes good, but not as good as when it's completely dissolved).

It is hard. It was the hardest part for me hands down. What I started doing was making some Soups (like my chicken tortilla soup) and eating the broth which was so much more flavorful than the canned stuff. I would also make smoothies with vanilla yogurt and a few frozen berries, that was also yummy. Cottage cheese was allowed on my liquids so I started adding other flavors to it to spice it up a little.

I have to say though I am not sure I would have done as well as I have done so far if it weren't for the "detox" from the carbs that I went through during this phase. It REALLY helped me a LOT with not having cravings so much once I went on real foods. Infact many things became too sweet! Good luck you will get through it just hang in there. :)

Towards the end of your liquids phase, the liquids can be getting thicker, as long as it will still go up a straw. So there is no need to stay with Protein Shakes and yogurt. I made some really yummy Soups that were just this side of a mushy, but you can dilute them as much as necessary with broth - just anything with a good savoury flavour! I couldn take weeks of sickly sweet Protein shakes and although I made nice fruit smoothies and such, you cant have everythign sweet. I also made 'soups" out of a couple of family meals by liquidising them with broth - roast beef and steamed vegies and a bit of gravy with chicken stock is pretty darn good! Again, if its liquid and goes up a straw, it's fine, nobody said you cant have "real" food.< /p>

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
