sleepyjean 0 Posted January 11, 2006 Did your insurance also pay for the other tests and office visits? I have to see my PCP and get a referral for an upper GI and endoscopy (I think that's what it was), and I have to meet with a dietician and a social worker before I can get in the door to talk to the surgeon. Are those things usually covered? LBS is clearly medically necessary, but I don't know if those other office visits are.

TrishS 3 Posted January 11, 2006 You probably just have to pay Co-pays.. Like you would any other time you go see your PCP for anything. You can ask your insurance provider as well. Good Luck with everything
HeatherGurl 0 Posted January 11, 2006 My insurance paid for banding and I had to pay copays and 10% for tests before hand.
ReneBean 3 Posted January 11, 2006 Insurance paid for everything except the psych evaluation. Good luck!
Alexandra 55 Posted January 11, 2006 My insurance paid for everything except the psych evaluation, too. Even though they excluded banding (at the time) all the pre-op evaluations and testing wasn't necessarily related to banding, so they covered it. My plan covered treatment for morbid obesity so anything coded with that diagnosis was a covered item.
piercedqt78 658 Posted January 11, 2006 My insurance covered all of the pre-op testing 100% (I paid co-pays at office visits) The psych visit wsa covered in a seperate mental health insurance policy that my husbands job provides. The back of my insurance card has a number for substance abuse, that is usually mental health services. My evaluation was covered all but $25. I was all too happy to send in that check, I was told it would not be covered and would cost between $400 and $600. So all in all yes my pre-op testing was covered. Now if I could get them to cover more than one follow-up appointment I would be a happy camper. ~Mandy
