I went to the plastic surgeon today. I have a hernia, a rash under my excess skin, and have had 3 c-sections. I thought my insurance might cover a Tummy Tuck, because of these 3 things, but she said it would be a waste of her time to try to get insurance to cover it!

Time to find a new plastic surgeon. If they're too lazy to help with insurance, they might be too lazy to do a good job on your tummy tuck!

We had a PS come to our Lap band support group meeting and he said that if you document the rash issue that most insurance will cover one kind of TT but not the other. I don't recall which was which, but it does sound like your PS is not willing to do much work for you. I'd look around.

Check with your bariatric surgeon's office. Many times they have someone they refer to when people ask and because these PS know exactly how to write the paperwork to get insurance to pay.

Make sure your PS specializes in working with bariatric patients.

I think the type of TT that Insurance will usually cover is called a panniculectomy (removal of the "pannus" or "apron" of skin). It's not really a TT, but sometimes they can do a little tightening at the same time.

I could be way off base though on the types of surgeries. No authority at all. :)

Do get the rashes documented with your PCP or Gyn. That will help.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
