Dr. Walter Rose

Recommended Posts

Okay, one more shot at finding a fill doc.

I've called his office to ask questions and they are supposed to call me back to schedule an appointment.

For those of you who have seen Dr. Rose, what was your experience? Since I'll be driving from Birmingham, AL and I've yet to have a fill, I'm really looking forward to nice restriction. Is he generous with fills? Or more conservative? Will he do free adjustments if you're too tight? I see that he's the chief of surgery and I've read up on his credentials, so I'm looking for more personal experiences.

Thanks in advance! :peace:

You can see the info on Dr. Rose at www.memorial.org then click on services, then surgical weight management. I don't have the number with me.

I cancelled my appointment with Dr. Rose because I was told on the phone that I may or may not receive my fill on my first visit because I am a new patient. The lady told me that he would give me a fill if they had time. That made me pretty mad because I'm not about to drive 2.5 hours and take an entire day off work for something I may/may not receive.

A friend of mine was banded by Dr. Rose and is very pleased with him.

I called Dr. Rose when I was looking for a fill doc and he wouldn't take any patients that were banded in Mexico, so maybe he's started to accept them now. I do know that he still won't fill anyone with a Swedish Band.

I can't believe that he wouldn't guarantee you a fill if you drive that far. I wouldn't risk the trip either if I were you.

Did you ever call Dr. Houston in Nashville? He will adjust the Swedish band and patients that were banded in Mexico.

Dr. Houston... is he the one at the Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity? I can't remember all the docs I've called. If he's the one I'm thinking of, then his office told me that they would call me back on whether he did fills for mexican patients or not.

This is really a stressful process! I just want my band to work properly :)

Stephanie,

Yes, he's at the Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity. I confirmed with him last week that he does indeed still take patients that were banded in Mexico.

I've got an email address to his assistant that makes all of the fill appointments for him. If you need it, let me know, I've got it at work and can email it to you tomorrow.

Finding a fill doctor can be very stressful. Hang in there!

Tricia

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
