Awe. :P Hey there! Your post must have been pushed pretty low, everyone here seems pretty welcoming! Sorry about that. Congrats on beginning your journey! Where are you at, are you in the seminar phase or have you gone to meet your surgeon yet? :rapture: Welcome to the forums!!!

I'm in picayune, ms. not by choice. My husband is in the navy stationed out of Stennis Space Center. I used surgical specialist of LA. Propbaby to far south for you.

Welcome!

Well, thanks ya'll. I have seen the doctor but before my insurance will pay for the surgery they want me to see a nutritionist for 3 months and also see a pulmonary doctor and a psych. These requirements are new for this year. Guess I waited too long to act. So it will be well into the summer before I can have any surgery. It took me a while to make the decision but now I am very impatient and want to get moving.

That's wonderful your ready to get started though! The positive is that since you have 3 months of waiting, you should be able to get some of your pre surgery requirements done. Typically your surgeon will require a psych eval, various bloodworks and sometimes a sleep study needs to be done. I have no patience either so I feel for you. If it helps at all, many people have a 6 month diet they have to go through so at least yours is half that. Insurance is the worst though. Obviously if you could do it on your own, you wouldn't be needing the surgery. But your on your way, and that's very exciting! :D

Hello, I'm new here as of today, April 20, 2011. I was banded Feb. 23, 2011 and my journey is phenominal! I have had smooth sailing from day one! However, I have followed all the rules my doctor set down. I have lost 18 lbs. since surgery, not counting the 10 I lost from the pre-surgery diet. My doctor is Dr. Ron Heiker in Texarkana, TX. He is simply great. The best perk so far is that I haven't had a Byetta shot for my Type II Diabetes since the night before my surgery. Sugar levels are looking great and my left knee no longer hurts. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
