Almost Busted by band Doc

Recommended Posts

I just moved and started a new job at a local hospital. The lap band doctor's office is in the next building over. I always wondered if I would run into him at the hospital.'

Well, today I was in the cafeteria trying to decide if I wanted the lovely chocolate chip Cookies or get 4oz of chicken salad. I made the right decision and got the chicken. As I was leaving the cafeteria I run into my doc!! I wanted to show him I made the right decision but decided not to. He said hello and that was that. If I had got the cookies I feel certain that would be the day he would ask me what I was eating!!

It is nice not to feel guilty.

I will say, although we should keep to healthy eating habits, indulging has to be a part of life. Without a little indulgence, we end up frustrated and deprived! Give yourself a break!! lol, you seem to be doing great! I work at a hospital as well but luckily my surgeon doesn't work at my hospital!! Good luck and have a cookie every once in awhile!!

I work in a hospital as an RN where the Bariatric office and my surgeon are. Today I was passing by the room where there was a lapband seminar and he called me in to talk to the folks about my experience. I have only lost 19 pounds, just having surgery Jan. 27....Yikes...talk about pressure!

Good for you for making the right decision. I know some people advocate that you can't do without the little 'guilty pleasures' and that may be true for some...but isn't that what got us into this mess? We obviously couldn't control those 'guilty pleasures' before...why do we think it's any different now? The band sure isn't going to help since it just loves slider foods. ;)

So, before I get flamed, if you can handle them and keep them to an infrequent treat...more power to you. If you find you can't, however, you might have to deal with the fact that, like an alcoholic, there's no such thing as one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
