I've had this problem since my surgery, but this week was the worst experience ever. (If you're put off by very descriptive posts, skip to the next post.)

I hadn't "gone" since Sunday. By Wednesday, I was so bloated and gassy it was beginning to get mildly painful. At one point a very loud release of gas occurred right in front of my students - can you say most embarrassing moment? I was constantly feeling like I had to go, but every time I sat down to business, nothing but gas. I knew that what little I was eating was still moving through, and was getting scared because I knew it was just compacting and getting wider, and the wider the stool, the more painful it is to release it. On the way home from work, I stopped at the drug store and bought a laxative, a stool softener, gas releaf tablets, and Fiber tablets. Hey, I was getting desperate. When I got home, I decided to give it another try before I delved in to all of that "help". Just for shits and grins (pun intended) I got on the scale first. After a painful pushing session that felt like another baby delivery, I was able to drop a huge, very wide (about double my normal width) turd. When it was over, I immediately felt better. I got on the scale again, and lo and behold I had just dropped two pounds of crap! I've been eating 3 prunes daily since Wednesday, and although it's still dry and requires some effort, I've been able to go. This weekend I'm going to try my first dose of the fiber supplement to see if that helps.

Ugghhh! I am going through the same thing. I have tried everything everyone has said above. I am 6 months out and have lost 70 lbs. Yesterday I went to a health food store in my neighborhood and told the guy my problem. He gave me some type of enzyme pills and said to have two before each meal and drink plenty of Water. Also to have mushy fruits, papaya, mango, etc. He also gave me Probiotics and said to take at night before I go to bed. I had the enzyme pills last night and before Breakfast and lunch. I had fruit for breakfast and drank plenty of water this a.m. I feel like I have to go so I am waiting to go. I love the band, but don't love the Constipation that goes with it. I think it is because we do not eat as much food, plus we don't eat a lot of fats in our food.

I am glad we can do probiotics cause for the last year I have done this and wow what a difference. I am on the pre-op milkshakes now and I popped 1/2 a pill this morning. My metabolism might get better after I lose weight etc, but at 58,,, the probiotics have been a great thing to have. I do not know why they do not want you to take them, but after 4 Drs and bunch of tests, I found these on my own and solved all my digestive issues with out the Drs, so, unless there is a medical reason, will be keeping them handy.

If I eat Cottage cheese, or Cheese Sticks. I end up plugged up.....

So When I have any of the above, I make sure I take a stool softener.

I also spoke to my surgeon, and they have a powder that dissolves in Water,

that works. So ask your Dr. for a prescription that will work for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
