Anyone having this issue? I haven't been regular since I had the surgery on 2/7. For the most part it seems the only way I can poop is to take a laxative. I don't like taking them and don't want to rely on them so I have only done it on Friday nights when I know I'm going to be home on Sat due to the last minute urgencies...sorry if to much info.

I have been upping my Fiber and that hasn't helped. I have never eaten a ton of fiber in the past and have never had this issue. I have always been regular.

Any suggestions? I'm starting to feel bunched up and gassy.

Thanks!

Ally

When i was having this problem, I spoke with my nutritionist. She said to make sure is was getting my daily Water and if i still was not going that i could incorporate fiber supplement into my regimen (metimucel etc). I consider this a side affect. because we concentrate so much on getting our Protein we really dont get enough fiber to keep us regular. Other tries are the activia yogurts.

I reved up my Water and so far things are flowing smoothly but i do still have to take something to help. I have heard some take a stool softener regularly. (I personally am not a fan.)

Good luck on finding a solution.

:oThis is a common complaint from everyone i've talked to that has had the lapband. i have to take 400mg colace/day Miralax once a day and 4 fiber tabs/day. Sometimes if that doesn't work, i take bisacodyl 15mg every 3 or 4 days. Just to relieve the Constipation. It sucks to feel bloated and miserable. Make sure you are going... Don't want to have any obstructions. So those are a few things you can try. You might not need to take everything that i am... But it's a start on what u can take...

Good luck!

I've been constipated since way before the band. I had not been to the dr in a number of years before deciding to get the band, so when I went to my pcp I brought it up and she recommended miralax. I take it regularly, well 5 days a week. For some reason it won't work when I go in to work early and just makes me uncomfortable. I also take fiber gummies and usually eat a fiber One Bar. If I still feel uncomfortable, I will take bisocodyl no more than once a week. I've read chronic use of those kind of laxatives can lead to liver issues and such.

I added more Water and started using Benefiber 3x a day. It seems to be helping..

This is a problem I have and it drives me nuts. I take benefiber every morning and it usually helps me out. After any surgery though I find the meds must clog me up because it takes days before I am regular again.

Be careful about taking too much fiber etc. You don't want to over do it and then have the opposite problem.

I drink my Water, and eat more nuts and fiber--but still have problems as well constantly that has caused me much pain. I like everyone else, once a in awhile take Milk of Magnesia to help, but like another poster said, I try not to do this that often so that my body can try to function on it's own.

I actually have a very hard time having a bowel movement to the point I have hemorrhoids. Make sure to monitor that you are going every couple of days. Unfortunately, I only go twice a week and it's painful and uncomfortable.

Recently, I've discovered waffles are a good source of fiber. Typically, after I eat one it gets things moving. Try that and make sure to incorporate lots of Water.< /p>

I'm just wondering what kind of diet everyone is on (that's having constipation). I do Atkins which is higher in fat (60-70%) compared to the usual 'diet' (20-30%), drink my 64 fl oz of Water and never have a problem with Constipation. I go every day like clockwork, no struggle. I've often wondered if it had more to do with the 'fat' than the Water.< /p>

@Elfiepoo, I wonder is it does have something to do with fats. I've been constipated for as long as I've been dieting, which is like 8 years or so. I went away for a week last month and did not eat the greatest and I went everyday without taking anything. But when I cam back, back to my normal. Not sure if it had to do with the fact that I was out of the country and things are different there (because I have gone off diets before on vacations in the country and still was constipated) or the fact I was eating more fat. Don't know

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
