Great! Good luck with you band. You sould awfully perky....I have been in a lot of pain....and my port area still hurts when I sleep on my tummy. Sounds, though, like you are going to be GREAT; please be patient....the weight does Not just fall off....you MUST follow all your diet restrictions. At the end of my day....I treat myself to that new Mouse from Jellow....it is dark chocolate and feels like you are cheating...but it is only 60 calories. So be good with the food journal and calorie counting....that is what keeps me on track!! God bless, Cheri

Hi Linda!

I'm Stacey from Raleigh NC. I was also banded on 3/18! How is everything going for you? I start back to work tomorrow and I'm a little nervous because of my shoulder pain. Sometimes it's terrible...but iit doesn't last long.

Hi there! Another 3/18 Bander here in NJ! My incisions are still sore and I am bruised like CRAZY! Painwise - the meds the doc prescribed aren't really cutting it. So, I spoke with the office and am now taking a small dose of ibuprofen instead.. which is SO much better. I am going back to work today - eeek!

The first week was horrible, but I can say that 3+ weeks out, it's great! I too had to get off of my liquid Vicodin because it was making me sick. Children's Tylenol worked perfectly for the pain! I have no problems sleeping on my stomach, but there is the "catch" from the port on my ribs from time to time! (Dr says it's normal) 4 of my 5 incisions are almost invisible and the 5th was kind of a large one (port incision)!

I still have an empty band, but I am experiencing some restriction and definate help with portion control!

I know my signature says that I have only lost 8 lbs, but I only weigh when I go to the doctor. Next WI is 3/30/11...I expect the overall loss since surgery to be 15-20 lbs!

Good luck all!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
