I would tell you to look up Dr. Hager Spivak in Houston. He is a very good surgeon and such a nice person. He only takes people who are self pay he has a really good price too. He and his staff are so great.

Dr Wilkenfeld in conroe/the woodlands is wonderful! He and his staff work closely with self pay or insurance companies. They are very focused on education before and after the surgery. I attended my first monthly seminar this past weekend. It was 2 sessions, one concerning taking the emotion out of eating and proper carbs/protien/fat ratios, and a clinical psychologist who discussed stress management techniques. Once a month, you are invited to an educational workshop on various topics (workouts, tai-chi, nutrition, emotional and stress management, etc) He does a no pressure intro seminar (1 hour) and a 2-3 hour pre-op eating seminar and a 2 hour post op seminar.

Lot's of help before and after, and their self-pay program is wonderful!

OH! I just read the self-pay part.....I was self-pay, banded 3/01/11. It was $9900 and includes 1 year of unlimited fills (wont fill closer than 2 weeks apart) and all of the seminars and a support group that meets on Tuesdays. (haven't done the support group yet!) If you are self pay, you are banded at the TRUE RESULTS surgery center in the medical center.

I had my own financing, but I know that they have options for financing.< /p>

Hope this helps!

I met with two surgeons that were both fabulous in my opinion.

I chose the one that was closest to my house which was Dr. Erik Wilson in Bellaire, TX.

The other surgeon that was recommended to me was Dr. Jason Balette in The Woodlands. I would highly recommend both places! Good luck!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
