Hello everyone!

I thougt I would introduce myself and tell you a ltiitle about me. My name is Cristen, I am 37 years old and have been overweight for the past 20 years or so. I have finally decided that I no longer want to live this way and therefore was banded on March 4th woohoo!! I started lurking around on this site back in October, after being denied by my insurance. I obviously didnt let that discourage me from going forward with the surgery ( I re-submitted after doing a sleep study and gaining 9 pounds...yes I had to gain to be eligible under my insurance!). I got great tips and encouragement even before my journey started!

I'm soooo excited about this new beginning. I have a wonderful, supportive husband and a 15 year old daughter that is alo very supportive in her own "pain the the butt " teenager way!! :) I look forward to making new friends and band-buddies on this great site! So far my healing is going well, and my weight is decreasing...I am looking forward to being able to eat "normal" food, although I know that will bring my will power and dedication to this lifestyle into play!! I AM READY!!

Wishing all weight loss sucess,

Cristen

Welcome,

You made a great choice and can now be headed down the road to health. Be sure to add in a bit of exercise to keep your metabolism up and make sure you have plenty of Protein to preserve your muscles and hair. ( you can get a great Vitamin called "hair, skin, and nails" at GNC) Best of luck to you on your weight loss journey,

I have been overweight all my life but kept ballooning with all the yo yo dieting. I finally decided to have the lapband surgery. I had to go on a diet followed by my pcp for 6 mos. I then got approved for the lapband. I had the surgery on 3/24/10. Since the diet began over a year and half ago, i have lost a total of 104lbs. I have 30 more to go. I am content where i am but still do not meet the healthy requirements by the bmi calculator. So here i go! I do wish you all the best in your weight loss journey.. Make sure your taking your Vitamins, drink Water and you might need to start on some Fiber tabs, stool softner and etc. If you have any questions or concerns, message me.. I love to talk

angie :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
