Its happened..... The dreaded plateau....

Recommended Posts

Well its here...unfortunately.....

I am down 80lbs in ten months. I am so thrilled! I have 20 more to go till goal. But I haven't lost even an ounce for two months! Haven't gained any either which is great. I work out almost two hours every day and switch it up often. And stay between 1100 & 1400 calories a day.

What did you guys do to break that plateau? How long did it take to see the scale moving again?

I'mTrying not to get too frustrated...byt two months is such a long time!

I brole through a plateau about 3 weeks ago. I know its so frustrating when you are doing everything right but the scale doesn't move!

It took me upping my calories and really switching up my workouts before the scale started moving again.

I hope you break it soon.

I am with you, trish! I am down 70 and haven't budged in about 6 weeks. I am wondering if I have gotten complacent in my routines. 2 months can seem like an eternity when one sees steady losses every month for a long period of time. I am gonna try switching up my eating and exercise routines and see if that helps. The body tends to get used to routines and stops cooperating. Good luck to you!!

If you average that out, you've been losing about 2 lb per week. So you're really not in a stall...you're body is just 'catching up'. Plus, the closer you get to goal, the slower you're going to lose because there's less wiggle room between what you need to maintain your current weight versus your ideal weight...unless you're willing to increase your expenditure by spending more hours exercising.

Congrats on the weight loss!

Up your calories. 2 hours of working out on 1400 calories max? Not enough. I'm not one to believe in starvation mode but you definitely need more calories than that. Try 1500; eat some almonds; easy calories, good fats, and not too many carbs. I'm working out for a solid 1.5 hours and eating 1600 a day.

Also, check your measurements. I'm 12lbs from goal, have been going between 132-134lbs but I've dropped a pants size almost.

I just broke through a mini-plateau (for lack of a better word - I call it mini because it only lasted a 3 weeks) by reducing my carbs to under 30 for about a week. I had previously tried increasing my calories but that didn't work for me (it might work for you because you are working out a lot more than I am).

Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
