I was banded 3/17/11 and so far everythng has begun as I expected.....until last night. I began getting severe pains in my left shoulder. I assumed it was gas and continued taking my GASX but nothing helped. It wasn't a pain that was in front of or behind the shoulder....it was sort of on top. Like where my shirt rests or my bra strap is. Now, I find myself to be a pretty strong person with hhigh oain tolerance, but this HURT. It eased up into the evening and I felt fine. I had the exact same debilitating pain today and called my doctor to see if he could order me something stronger for Gas......

My doctor told me it wasnt gas pain. It was from him "dissecting" my left side and that is why it is my left shoulder hurting. He promised it would go away within a week and to take tylenol or advil or something......I was on pain meds by the time he had called me back and I didont ask what exactly he meant by "dissection".......

Any ideas what he was referring to or anyone this happen to?

I had mine on March 18, and the doctor said that it was due to muscles that he had to move around on that side of my body to put the band in. I massaged it, put ice on it and it eventually stopped hurting. I hope this helps.

I was banded 2/23 and had the same pain. I did a heating pad and that helped. It does get better. I do still sometimes get it if I ate too much.

Best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
