Dar 0 Posted January 11, 2006 I am not yet banded. Is it so that during the surgery they just put the band on without any restriction? Or is the band itself some restriction?
sunshinenh 0 Posted January 11, 2006 I am new to this (banded 12/6/05). My band was put on without any fill. Simply having the surgery caused swelling and I had very dimished capacity. Capacity has slowly increased, but NOWHERE near where I was pre-band. I haven't had a fill yet. Even without a fill, I find that I just cannot eat what I used to (yeah!!). Good luck in your journey. cissy 0 Posted January 11, 2006 I think it's a matter of your doctor's preference. My doctor filled mine to 0.8cc at the time of surgery.
Criss Kellogg 0 Posted January 11, 2006 Hi Dar, I too had surgery at the Barix clinic in Ypsi. My band was not filled at time of surgery. There was a good deal of restriction from the band itself not to mention the swelling fromthe surgery. I just had my first fill today, and Dr is pretty conservative, only giving 1 cc at a time. I can return in 2 weeks if it hasn't helped give more restriction. I have only been able to eat about 1/2 cup of food at a time and that would fill me up for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Strange, and weird, but awesome  . I think you are the one who said you live inthe Flint area. I do too and if you'd like to PM me, i'd love to talk about starting a support group in the area. Chat soon, Criss
HarleyNana 10 Posted January 11, 2006 My doctor didn't add any fill when I was banded, but he says that he does add a little now with the larger bands.
Alexandra 55 Posted January 11, 2006 Post-surgery some people do feel restriction just with the band itself. It's not a sure thing, though; some people feel almost completely normal once they are fully healed from the surgery itself. That's the beauty of the band! It's adjustable for YOU, so that you get the custom fit you need. One size does NOT fit all.
