Hi everyone. I was banded on 12/26. Did well until 4 days post-op when I had severe nausea and dehydration. I was hospitilized 4 nights with IV fluids and given steriods. My surgeon felt the nausea was due to swelling. Anyway I felt fine until this Saturday when I started on mushies and ate some potato Soup from Chili's. It had a little cheese and a few bacon bits which I know I should have not eaten, but I chewed very well. Then I took a few bites of Pasta which I chewed very well. Ever since then I fill like something is stuck in my esophagus. I can drink liquids without problem and eats mushies (soup, yogurt, etc) but I have a pain in my left upper chest that feels like a pulling sensation. I tried to bring it up, even though I know this is bad but it feels so uncomfortable. Does anyone have any suggestions or clues about what it going on? PAV

You may be a little swollen, I'd give it another 24hrs, but if you feel something has happened, give your doctor a call, better safe than sorry.

I ate eggs tonight and they went down fine but the sensation is still there. I have an appt. with my doc on Thurs. I'm hoping it will pass before then.

Try nothing but warm liquids for the next 24 hours, that will help with the swelling and the liquids won't irritate the stomach like the "real food" will..Good Luck

you are probably right. I don't think I will try Pasta again for a very long time. I still feel like I have some food stuck. It feels like it's just floating between my throat and esophagus which grosses me out. Or maybe I have swelling in my espohagus. Does this happen? Won't it ever pass? I stayed on fluids and Soups all day without any problems, just still have the sensation. Has anyone ever had food stuck? What happens and what will they do to get it out if it is?

Saw my surgeon today. He didn't seem worried about my funny sensation. I told him I feel like something is stuck in my esphagus and he says that's normal right now. Hmmm. He says it will go away. I hope so cause it feels uncomfortable. Anyway. I'm down 9lbs in 2.5 weeks. I've stalled for the last 5 days which makes me worried. He was pleased and reminded me the weight will come off slowly. My BMI was 35 which barely qualified me here in the US for surgery. I had other probs like sleep apnea, back pain, etc. Start weight was 195, pre-op 189. Today I was 180.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
