Questions for after my fill

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I have some questions regarding the fills. After you get a fill, do you have more problems getting down things than before- or do you just get full quicker. I am having some problems with meat which I really don't want since it is hard to do low carb without it, but on the other hand, I feel like I can consume more than I should be able to. Like, I can eat 2 eggs and 1 piece of toast in the morning, and I am not overly full. Plus, I only stay full for 3-4 hours. I told my surgeon this at my first post-op visit, and she acted like I was just being a hog and I should only need 3 oz of food at one sitting ( I might add that she is a twig). I got this band because I have a problem with hunger and overeating-- HELLO-- does she think I just did it for fun? Anyway, she is telling me that I should try and lose weight without any fills, but my whole thing is that if I am overly hungry then I am going to eat. So, back to my original question- what happens after the fill. (BTW-- my surgeon deals more with gastric bypass patients)

Thanks,

Kelly :hungry:

Huh? Why even get the band if you're going to try to lose weight without fills? I've lost almost 9kg without a fill but I can tell it is petering out now, I'm starting to think between meals, hmmm wouldnt mind a little something, I'm getting hungrier. I still get full pretty quickly though.

How many surgeons are there out there that really have NO idea what it's like to be obese and share the general public's view that if we just zipped our lips and used a bit of willpower we would lose weight? Seems to be an awful lot.

I dont know the answer to your question though, so I'm going to hang round waiting for an answer. I have my first fill on 19th Jan at 9 am and I want to go out for Breakfast with some dear friends on 21st January. Now I dont intend to eat a huge hunk of toast or anything, but I'm almost scared to eat in public at all that soon afterwards.

Kelly, there's no question that a fill will help you get full faster and stay full longer. But if all you're eating is two eggs and a piece of toast (otherwise known as "breakfast"), and you're staying full for three or four hours (or until the time otherwise known as "lunchtime"), it sounds to me like you're doing just fine! If you're comfortable and losing weight where you are you may not need a fill just yet.

Our expectations are often out of whack. If certain foods are causing you trouble now, chances are very good that they will cause you MORE trouble when you're tighter. Things getting stuck is a sign that you have not yet mastered the chew-till-pulverized technique, or the take-mouse-bites technique.

By all means get a fill if you need one. But your description of what you're eating and how hungry you get doesn't indicate to me that anything is at all wrong. You don't WANT to get overly full. Maybe you can try eating just the two eggs now and see if that keeps you until lunchtime. Practice more on the meats that cause you trouble and see if you can master eating them without difficulty. Then when you do get a fill you can proceed without fear.

You wouldn't be human if you didn't get hungry after several hours--that's perfectly normal and means you're still alive.

I have a question about my fill. I had an initial fill of 1.5cc in a 4cc band on the 12/30. A week later I was back in getting another .25 cc added as I did not feel any restriction. Well now I have restriction (maybe too much). The first 2 bites of almost anythig I eat seem to cause a severe "heartburn" type reaction, almost to the point of holding my breath it hurts soooo bad. I then start to feel really sick and go to the bathroom where everytime I hickup I throw up a clear mucas (gross). After I do this for 5 or 10 minutes I feel fine and can eat ... anyone have any ideas of why this is happening? The only thing I seem to have no trouble with is Soups and thin mashed potato's. Do you think my band is too tight or do I just need to be patient and wait to get adjusted. Also, weight is very slow in coming off, some weeks with no loss at all.

Confused in Dallas!
