When did you get start....?

Recommended Posts

It looks like my paperwork says I can have Clear Liquids for the 1st seven days. Then I can move on to thicker liquids like Protein Shakes, applesauce, pudding, cottage cheese and eggs at day 8 and on. When did you get to start? I have only been having Water and popsicles and a little broth. So ready for some applesauce or pudding. When did you get to start those?

From what I've read here, everyone is a little different.

I was clear Liquids for 3 days, the "heavy" liquids (Shakes, Soup, etc) for 4 days. Started "mushies" on day 8 for 2 weeks. Then reg food for week 4. First fill end of week 4.

I started full liquids the day after surgery. I think I would die if I had to do clear liquids for a week. The one day before surgery I had to do that was awful.

It is so true that there is a wide difference among surgeons. I was fed tuna salad & cranberry sauce before I could be discharged from the hospital! Didn't have to eat much but they wanted to make sure I could eat mushies, which I then stayed on for 4 weeks before moving to solids.

Your orders say clear liquids, which is anything you can see through. When others could start on different stages doesn't really matter. What matters is what YOUR doctor allows. If you need something more, call your surgeon's office and ask if you can add Protein Shakes or something else.

I was expecting to be on clear liquids for 7 days, but was able to move to full liquids after 3 as I was healing very well.

I was on clear liquids for 3 days post op then full liquids and Proteins shakes for another 2 weeks. at 2 weeks post op I started on mushies and at 4 weeks I started on regular foods. It's funny how different doctors have different guidelines

Clear liquid 3 days, liquids for 1 week, mushes 1 week and then slowing added solids in. Every Doctor is different for what reason I do not know but I suggest you follow what your doctors says.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
