Tricare denied claim after approving surgery!

Recommended Posts

I'm going with the anesthesiologist thought. This happened to me where the surgery was covered 100%, but the anesth was not in my plan. So I got hit up for $1750. I had to pay it. It stunk, but I then realized that this was a drop in the hat to pay compared to what the entire procedure cost, and am fortunate to have insurance that did cover it.

that just isnt right they should warn you ahead of time if you want to pay or not. not just do the proceedure and then bill you

I would follow up with Tricare on this; I have Prime as well as was covered 100%. As long as the provider was someone in the Tricare network, I don't see why you would owe anything (unless you've exceeded your yearly cap, I don't know what happens then...). In the meantime, I agree with everyone else: until you receive a letter from Tricare stating "This is a bill" then I would let them work out everything....

Oh, and if you click on the individual claim, it will tell you specifically who and what the charge was for...

I have Tricare Prime also, but for Retirees. Anyway, shortly after the surgery I received a 3rd party collection form from Tricare. It seems that one of the codes that was used sent up a red flag that maybe it was an accident of some kind and that somebody else should be paying for it. As soon as they received the form back everything was approved. It only cost me a $25 copay! Just give them a call and find out what is going on.....Good Luck!

I was called by Tricare to tell me that my surgery was approved, Yeah! I went in for the surgery at the hospital and they told me I was clear and didn't owe anything for the surgery there. I assumed they had gotten approval through Tricare as well. I went on TricareWest online and to check my claims and found that Tricare had denied a $2000 claim by the hospital. It says patient responsibility $2000! They said that I was approved. Has anyone got any experience with this? I am so worried, this was sooo not in the budget! What will happen?!

Need advice please!

Just wondering if you have found out if there was a billing error or something else?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
