How Visible is Your Port???

Recommended Posts

Question for you guys out there.

Prior to being banded, I was told that the Port is more noticeable on Men than Women.

I was Banded last month. Was 85lbs overweight. Had/have what is commonly called a Beer Belly. Large, but rock hard.

Right now my port is right under my skin, and looks slightly smaller than 1/2 a golf ball, not to mention the scar. I can see the bump with a t-shirt on. I go to a gym/health club that has showers, steam , sauna and whirlpools in the locker room where all the men walk around naked, and I am very self conscious of this bump.

I joked with my Dr. saying that it looks like I will be one of those guys that always wears a "Muscle T-shirt" while at the beach. He said don't worry, as you stomach goes down/flat, it will be less noticeable.

I do crunches everyday, meaning when my belly does get flatter, it will still stick out??

What say You????

Mine is noticable small bulge even under t shirt. If anyone asks, which in over 6 years now, has been less than 3-4 times, depending on my mood, I tell them it's my alien implant. It is the least of my concerns. One thing to avoid....if you do any yard work unloading utility trailer with short sides on it....do NOT use it as a fulcrum while reaching over into the bed of the trailer!

You can't see mine right now , down 40 pounds , but that area is rock hard , I am a ups driver and I have hit it really hard a few times , didn't feel that good

Mine has turned on its side, so its clearly visible.

Maybe someday I will get it corrected or taken out, but for now I really don't care. All the excess skin I have is much more of a problem than the port sticking out... And no number of crunches is going to fix the skin problem.

Mine is certainly visible. Not so much under clothing, but then again, I wear a lot of suits and sweaters. Its more a bump thing. I asked the doctor about it, he said it is unlikely to change much, and that at some point, when I have reached the weight loss I would like, if it still bothers me, I can have it changed to a thinner one, or perhaps just re-set in lower.

It doesnt bother me all that much, and no one has asked. I am far more self consious about the scars which are not some kind of faded purple color and more noticeable.

I had mine for 3 and 1/2 years and you still can really see it. The scars are still noticeable but then again rarely do I go around with my shirt off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
