Hello I'm Nobia! I'm having my LB done next week, Thursday. I'm a newlywed, married less than a year to my husband who is a Marine stationed in Japan (not the disaster area). Between us we've got 5 kids and 3 dogs. My husband is set to return to the US next month and we're all moving to 29 Palms CA! Looking foward to a totally new life style in the coming weeks, months, years...

Oh, and not really enjoying the pre-op diet, but following it word for word!

I'm scheduled to have my LB next week too!

Very excited, but not really sure if I have everything ready to go.

Nobia -

I'm having my LB procedure tomorrow at 1530. I'm also a former Marine - please give your husband a Semper fi for me when he gets back home.

I have been working down to 1200 calories a day - today has been the hardest. I stayed on a liquid diet all day yesterday, no problem. I did break

down today and have a small amount of low - fat cottage cheese, and Greek yogurt. Other than that, it is Protein Drinks and fruit juice.< /p>

I don't have a lot of questions - I've been waiting to have the surgery for 3 years - so you might say I am REALLY ready.

It would be nice to have a 'pen-pal' to chat with.

I'll let you know how I'm doing after I get home tomorrow night.

Semper fi

Thank you for the welcomes! I'm not nervous thank goodness, but the timing is so crazy. I'm set to move soon after surgery. We've got movers, so no heavy lifting for me, and I've arranged for the dog I have here with me in CA to stay with family until my husband and the other dogs arrive safely from Japan. But the idea of moving, kids in new school etc, gets a bit stressful. Luckly the kids are all older, and perfectly capable of helping out..

Looking forward the hearing how both of your procedures go.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
