18 Days Post Op- HELP

Recommended Posts

Ok I am 18 days post op and I feel absolutely normal. I have ZERO restriction and I am wondering what people are eating at about this time. No really what you are eating but how much. If I keep my food to a cup or less I am hungry still when I leave the table. So I have just been trying to focus on eating Protein and if I am over indulging it is on protein and mainly dinner cause I go all day white nuckling through and when it comes to dinner I am starving. I really hope it gets better. Otherwise what did I do this for? Should I be measuring my food and only eating a cup or less and just be hungry. I go for my first fill on the 25th, but is one fill really going to do that much when right now I feel like I do not even have a band in me?

Also I am having pain or a soreness at my port site. Is that normal?

I am a MESS! :(

It will get better. Some docs put a small fill in atthe time of Surg and some don't. Plus now your natural swelling restriction is prob gone. I am 5 weeks out and in need of a fill which I will get next week. I feel like I can eat way more than I should too. A big part of it is in your head. I have to keep busy or I will snack and graze. I think it is just going to be that way for sone people. Don't get discouraged. It will get better. And it sounds like you are doing right by focusing on Proteins now.

After about 2-weeks or so the post-op swelling dies down. You're not going to have restriction from the get-go (in most cases) or else there'd be no point for fills. When I was on liquids/mushies I still had great restriction (I still have it today) so I believe I ate 1/2 - 1 cup of food. I would try to limit how much you eat at one serving.

What exactly are you eating? I assume you're on mushies by now? If so you may want to slowly move off the shakes. liquids arent going to provide you with any sort of satiety, at least not for long. If you're not eating during the day, learn to, ASAP. Dinner should be your smallest meal of the day, not your biggest.

For now just keep on pushing. Your first fill may or may not help. Some people get restriction with 1 fill, others get restriction after 10+ It all depends on how aggressive your surgeon is with fills and what you're looking to get out of "restriction."

Port pain is normal and can last for a few weeks. Good luck.

I am on regular food now. I am not eating raw veges or steak yet, but basically everything else I am eating. I do try and eat a little all day and at first that was working great. I would have a Atkins shake on the way to work then a yogurt a couple hours later then lunch and another yogurt or something in the afternoon and then dinner. For the most part I am ok doing this and I am not chowing down at dinner, just eating more than a cup of food. Probably between 1 and 2 cups at dinner. I was expecting to eat like a half cup to a cup and be satified. Well it is not cutting it! I guess I just feel like I did before surgery and my weight loss has been at a standstill for the last week so I am wondering when things will feel different. And should I only eat a cup of food even if I am still hungry?

Ok so most of us have felt the same exact way!! When it happened to me I thought I was possibly the only person that would fail the band. Just stay focused. it will take a couple of fills to help with the hunger. Your body is healing and most doctors do not put anything in the band when it is placed. I felt some restriction after 1st fill and an having my next one on the 26th. I have never had any problems eating anything I just can only eat 1/2 of what I use to. Be sure you are getting your exercise in. Just give your body time to heal. Eat your protein through the day. Do not let yourself get to the starvation point. It is hard when you are working but find time for a cheese stick, or I take cottage cheese and tuna with me everywhere. It is easy and very filling. Good luck and stay positive. The port soreness is normal. I had it for about 7-8 weeks. When I had my first fill it was so sore my nurse practicioner was asking all kinds of questions to make sure I did not have a clot somewhere. It just felt much better at about 7 weeks.

They told me that the first 4-6 weeks after surgery are the hardest. Once the swelling goes down and before your first fill you will be hungry. Hang in there. It does get better! Good luck!

According to my doctor you will never be full on 1/2 cup of food. I've never read on here that a doctor ever said 1/2 cup. What I do hear is "My friend says they only eat 1/2 cup". Well, people say all kinds of things does'nt make them true. My doctor says 3 oz of Protein. You may be able to shove that into half a cup but what about the veggies?

Anyway. Before restriction this is a diet. Took me 6 months. My advice is to weigh your Protein and then measure 1 cup of veggies and when that's done stop eating. Since I often have many hours (6 or more) between lunch and dinner, since I go to the gym; my Nut. said to have low fat cheese stick to hold me over. She also said the Premier ready to drink (160 cal, 30 protein) would be okay for a snack.< /p>

Hi,

I was on 1/4 cup of food three times a day plus unlimited sugar free Popsicles at that stage. I was working on increasing to 1/3.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
