I was told I could never again drink sodas, champagne or beer unless they go flat. BUT, no on ever said I wouldn't ever be able to take a small pill or capsule. This is torture. I can't imagine not being able to take pills the rest of my life. Everything tastes awful opened up and crushed and in liquid form!

I take numerous pills, some pretty large. I was told I would have to crush them, and take chewable Vitamins. However, I've found, only been filled once, that I can still swallow pills, one at a time, with Water.

Fortunately, I quit drinking soda years ago for other health reasons.

I take plenty of pills. I just make sure I drink a lot before and after.

You will not always have to crush your pills... just in the beginning when your stomach is healing. I have had four fills and have 5 cc's in my 11 cc band now and can swallow my pills without crushing. Some are, what I consider, pretty big pills and I have no problems. Hang in there... it gets better every day and so worth it! I do occasionally miss an ice cold diet coke but wouldn't trade my band for one. Hope you are feeling better soon!

I think most of us take pills regularly, although there are some people who have problems. I'd give it a try. No one likes getting stuck, but I'd hate a lifetime of crushing my medicine.

I have no trouble with my smaller pills. But, I take chewable vitamins. I have been stuck with a Vitamin. As folks said, after swelling is gone, 1 at a time works good.

I am two years out...I don't have any trouble with pills for the most part...the only one I struggled with one time was an Allegra-D 24 hr pill...which is bigger than the 12 hr one...(so I switched back to the 12 hr one) I take capsules regularly without a problem....you just have to be sure to drink a lot of Water.

I only quit drinking pop for the first few months while my stomach was healing....I drink one a day now - I LOVE the carbonation the most...so I drink diet cafeine free. It's my treat of the day! I have found that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Vitamin Water -- it isn't too sweet like some crystal light seems to me...and not bland like plain old water. It helps me stay hydrated.

My doctor said I can take any pill that is the size of an M&M or smaller just fine. I have been taking Aleve since surgery with no problem.

I am 20 months out and take all my pills with a cup of coffee in the morning. They say warm liquid opens the band some.

If Aleve is OK with your bariatric surgeon.. that's fine. However, it is a NSAID and many bariatric docs prohibit or severely limit the use of NSAIDs. They are thought to contribute to the possibility of erosion.

Just wanted you to be aware of this if you weren't already. :)

I was never required to crush or open pills.. even immediately post-op. My post-op pain meds were pretty big pills.

I now take my Vitamins every morning with a cup of coffee. If you don't like coffee, hot tea or hot Water with lemon even will work.

i heard that you had to crush the pill due to erosion of the band not cause of swallowing

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
