In need of encouragement - 2 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I was banded on March 4th. I lost 12 pounds pre-op and since surgery have lost 5-6 more. As of Saturday (5 days ago) I have actually gained 1-2 pounds. I am back on normal foods now (some what) and am doing my best to get in the Protein and Water etc.

Is this normal?? It just seemed to be melting off at first and now going the other way. I just don't want to be one of those people that end up posting 6 months from now that I have only lost 20lbs! I am very dedicated to this new life style but am feeling a little discouraged?

Anyone have any advice??

I was banded on March 2nd and I am going through the same thing! Another similarity we are both in North Carolina. I currently live in Morrisville near cary, and I am having a allergic reaction to something dealing with the band or the port i can not figure it out. I have lost 12lbs also so far since surgery and i am at a stand still. But i am sorta of scared about this reaction because i am itching everywhere and i dont want to take the band out i feel i am just getting started. Everyone i have talked to and read online that 12lbs so far is good so stick in there! Hopefully after our first fill things will get better. I am hoping i can get my first fill on April 8th since i am having these issues with breaking out. Wish me luck.

If you don't mind me asking, who is your doctor? I go to Dr. Bovard at Rex Wakefield and had my surgery at Rex in Raleigh. I live and work in Fuquay. I am glad to have found someone that is very close to me in terms of mileage and banded date.

I would love to keep in touch to compare if you don't mind.

I was banded March 9th, Before the pre op diet I was 207, Day of surgery I was 196, now I am 186. I am starting to experience the exact same thing. I was losing 2 lbs/day, yesterday only 1, today none, but I have this weird feeling I will be gaining. I am not doing anything wrong either. Maybe when we get our fills it will help, I sure hope so. I have a post op appt. on 3/23. Hopefully I will get a fill then and see a difference. On the bright side we are all a little smaller than we were to begin with!! Hopefully one of the older banders can help us understand all this!! Hang in there!

Hang in there. I lost around 20 pounds post op in the first 3 weeks, but then I gained about 8 pounds ( I was able to start solids again just in time for Christmas). I had my 1st fill at week 4 and started losing again and haven't gained since then. Good luck to both of you :)

It is VERY common for people to hit a plateau when you go back on regular foods, just keep being good to yourself and making good choices and it will catch up in a good way. Expect 1 to 2 lbs a week from now on when you are not on a plateau, and get a tape measure to take your measurements, that will tell you better than the scale in terms of weight loss as well. Yes you will see pounds dorp off but you will see inches even when the scale stalls! Hang in there!

OMG... I was also banded by Dr. Bovard on March 4th in Raleigh... I bet you were the person right after me because when he stopped in after surgery he joked that he was able to practice on me before he operated on the next person. Too cool!!!!!!

I've lost a little over 25 pounds but this morning when I got on the scale I had gained 3 lbs since yesterday. I am not all that worried because it is my T.O.M. My pants are fitting loose, even getting baggy so overall I feel great.

I had a few complications a couple of days after surgery (I developed a stomach virus) which was NOT pleasant AT ALL but Dr. B prescribed an anitbiotic and everything seems to be cleared up.

If you don't mind me asking, who is your doctor? I go to Dr. Bovard at Rex Wakefield and had my surgery at Rex in Raleigh. I live and work in Fuquay. I am glad to have found someone that is very close to me in terms of mileage and banded date.

Plateus happen but dont be in such a hurry to get a fill. The longer you wait for a fill and keep losing the more you will have to work with. I have been banded 15 months and only have 3 and a half cc's in my 10 cc band. I was on a six month platue before I ever got one fill but lost 70lbs with no fill. Slow but steady. You may not lose every single day or even every single week but being in a hurry to get a fill is not the answer either you get filled up and then what there is nothing else left to work with.

[/quote.

I also work in fuquay ...banded 2/28 by Dr Bruce cary surgical . Down 20 so far.

Also the itching might be a reaction to the surgical. Glue they told me several people have alergic reactions to that stuff. I itched but I think it was mostly dry skin since they said no lotion.

Don't fret the gain ur body has been through a lot. Week 2 I didn't lose anything....give it time to adjust.

Feel free to keep in touch would love some local lap band buddies!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
