Hi, i currently weigh 100kgs and am 168cms. All of my life i have battled with my weight and have tried everything from regular diet & exercise, Meal Replacement shakes, Bulimia, Pilates, Bikram Yoga and even Diet pills. No matter what i do the weight never gets below 85kgs and it always comes back on plus a few extra after some months. My doctor has recommended i have lap Band surgery. I am considering it at this point. I just switched health insurance packages and have been advised that i will have to wait for a year before i can be covered for the procedure. This was extremely frustrating for me and i don't know if i can wait that long. I have been advised to take the time to educate and prepare myself for the procedure whilst i wait for the year to go by. So i am eager to learn all that i can to prepare myself and educate myself.

Good luck, and welcome! I'm from Australia as well, but currently living in Canada (most of my family live in Perth!)

I was just banded on March 8th, and my insurance doesn't cover it at all, so I'm envious you're able to - even if it is a year from now. The time will fly and you'll be feeling great in no time :)

Hi,

I started to go though the process of the gastric bypass in 2003. Needless to say my company switched insurance and it didn't cover it! I was upset but knew I couldn't afford it myself. I started a new job in August of 2010 and my insurance went into effect on Sept 1. I had a Dr appt with my medical Dr. on the 3rd:) My insurance does cover both the lapband and bypass. I'm going for the lapband. My insurance said it could be done in 3 months. But with all the stuff you have to do it took more like 6. I have a surgury date for April 7! Very excited. My cousin had the lapband done in 2009 and has lost about 150lbs, she looks wonderful and feels like it!

Thank you so much for welcoming me. I must admit i read some of the posts on this site where people discussed some of the complications they were experiencing and i started to think twice about it. I have had a few more weeks to think about it and i reckon i will go ahead with the lap band as i would rather give it a try than live like this with all of the weight. Good luck with your journey. I hope it works for you.
